    Everton 1-2 Man Utd

More from Phil Jagielka: "There was stuff said at half time. We knew we were still in game and had the best two chances in the first half but couldn’t put them away.

"When Man United have something to defend and we have nothing to lose it changes. We had chances but couldn’t take them and then couldn’t keep them out at the other end."

Chris Swan: Hey Roberto stop it with the undeserved/deserved nonsense, you lost because the other team scored on their chances!

Andrew Kemp: Well that will most likely cost Martinez his job come the end of the season. Too little achieved with a decent squad.

Joe Wedgwood: LvG brought in youngsters that will drive United to FA cup glory and still people scream for his sacking? Fickle, fickle 'fans'

Peter: Sure sign of desperation when a manager says they deserved extra time - next step, if only the lights had failed..

Sushant Shetty: LVG has given mufc a trio of Martial, Rashford and Lingard. What a legacy he is leaving. Deserves another year for sure

LVG has the best job in the world as Man Utd manager and never seems to enjoy it. Maybe he should think about another line of work? Criticism of the ref was churlish and gave no credit to either set of players. It was a great cup tie - and it would just have been good to hear he was as pleased with the result as the fans. But to be honest, Fergie never made himself popular at the post match interview either. Maybe LVG can emulate Fergie and the class of '92. In more ways than one

Confirmation - of sorts - from a Wigan supporting colleague that Wigan's old ground had the same size pitch as Wembley.

I mean, when you think about it, why would Wembley have a much bigger pitch than any other stadium? That would be weird.

'The FA Cup final will be played on Hyde Park from next year. 500-a-side...'

    Everton

Everton defender Phil Jagielka speaking to BBC Sport: "To lose 2-1 is disappointing but to lose with the last kick of the game - we're absolutely devastated.

"We knew we had to perform. We put them on the back foot in the second half but didn't take our chances. We weren't able to find that magical moment.

"You think you're gong into extra time but luck wasn't really on our side."

Phil Jagielka has just repeated the 'Wembley is a big pitch' line - is that really the case or is it nonsense?

I was always told that Port Vale had the biggest pitch in the Football League but I'll be honest, I have no evidence to back that up...

As a Utd fan I'm curious about Van Gaal continuing. What if he turns our young side into another class of '92 style set of geniuses? What if Mourinho came along and chucked all the young guys. Give him another year!

Everton boss Roberto Martinez: "It is a hard result to take. Over the 90 minutes we at least deserved the right to go into extra time. We were a little sluggish in the first half but we got the equaliser but to concede in injury time is a blow nobody deserved.

"I thought the fight we showed was really strong, a team with incredible togetherness. The support we had behind us was terrific. We coped with the tough period in the first half and we were strong mentality to cope.

"The longer the game went on, the bigger chance we had. The game was going our way, the chances were coming and I felt we were the stronger team. It is tough to lose a semi-final because the feeling is a very undeserved feeling. If you are going to lose a tie that is the way you lose it, creating chances and in the second half we were the better side.

"There was no comparison between today and Anfield. Everything that goes wrong can go wrong but today was the opposite. We reacted with an incredible fight and togetherness. The performance was a typical Everton response."

Peter Collins: Lukaku may want to leave because Everton aren't going anywhere, but he's just knocked £10 million off his transfer value.

Oliver Cook: Lukaku has had a very good season, but with so many missed chances, games like today shows he is not a big game player, yet.

Manchester United keeper David de Gea on BBC Sport: "The penalty save was a key moment. Everton played really well and had some chances in the end. We're really happy. In one second Anthony Martial scores a goal and you win it in the last minute - it's unbelievable. It is really important for us, the fans and the club. We also want to finish in the top four in the Premier League."

As an Everton fan I was worried about our best players being poached. 50 million for Lukaku anyone? Anyone? 40 million... What about Stones for 50 million...? Why is everyone sniggering?
