With the La Liga title all but mathematically out of reach, the Champions League has become Zidane's priority now. That shows in his team selection this afternoon. Goalkeeper Keyloe Navas, midfielder Luka Modric and striker Karim Benzema have been left out of the squad altogether, while Gareth Bale is on the bench. Captain Sergio Ramos is suspended, having been sent off - deservedly - late in last Sunday's 2-1 win at Barcelona.

Real Madrid: Kiko Casilla; Carvajal, Pepe, Nacho, Arbeloa; Isco, Casemiro, Rodriguez; Lucas, Jese, Ronaldo.

In the meantime, there is a La Liga home match against mid-table Eibar to contend with this afternoon. A win is expected and would, for a couple of hours at least, move Real above city neighbours Atletico Madrid and into second place. I'll be keeping an eye on events at the Bernabeu for you. Welcome along.

The reason Zidane is under intense pressure? Wednesday's poor display in losing their Champions League quarter-final first leg 2-0 to Wolfsburg in Germany. The second leg at the Bernabeu is this Tuesday. As the manager acknowledges, the season is at stake.

Zinedine Zidane was only appointed Real Madrid's manager in January. Six days ago, he led them to an El Clasico victory at the Nou Camp. And yet there he was yesterday, fielding questions as to whether his job is under threat.

"We know the responsibility at this club," he replied. "But I'm not looking at that. On Tuesday, we are playing to save our season. We know that."
