Adam Legzdins, who has been superb so far, makes a complete hash of a relatively tame free-kick. He spills the ball straight into the path of Jordan Rhodes chasing it in, who pokes in from about four yards.
Relief for the visitors! They're back on terms.
So, how will Middlesbrough respond to going a goal down, in such a huge game for the club?
Albert Adomah has a go but Adam Legzdins palms away his shot.

Birmingham take the lead and that goal will be cheered by Burnley and Brighton fans as well as Bluenoses.
Stephen Gleeson tries his luck from outside the area, as the ball falls to him in space, and his right-foot shot has too much power on it for Dimitrios Konstantopoulos. The keeper gets a hand to it but he can't keep it out. This game has really come alive!

It is end-to-end stuff now! Middlesbrough have another chance to take the lead through Jordan Rhodes but, once again, Blues keeper Adam Legzdins comes out very quickly and gets down low to deny the former Blackburn striker. Will Boro regret these missed chances? That was a very swift counter attack.
At the other end, David Cotterill curls in a shot from the edge of the box but Dimitrios Konstantopoulos makes an easy save.

We have a game all of a sudden! Straight down the other end, Maikel Kieftenbeld tries his luck from around 30 yards and his crisp drive is palmed down by Dimitrios Konstantopoulos, only as far as Clayton Donaldson, but Konstantopoulos then dives to his left quickly to save the rebound. It could easily be 1-1.

The first chance of the game falls to Jordan Rhodes in the box but Birmingham goalkeeper Adam Legzdins does excellently to come out and divert Rhodes' low finish over the bar.
That was a real opportunity - Rhodes should have scored.

I think what Steve Claridge is trying to say, politely, is that this game has been very, very poor so far.
A wayward, low effort wide of the goal from Stewart Downing is the only shot either side have attempted so far.

"There's no width, what's Richie de Laet going to do with it? It's not like he's Ryan Giggs.
"Stewart Downing is coming inside and de Laet is filling the space, but who do you want to get the crosses in?
"Birmingham are going to have to play a bit more football if they are going to get Clayton Donaldson into the game."

Middlesbrough's Adam Clayton now slides in late on Maikel Kieftenbeld. Once again, the referee calms things down.
It is a physical game so far, that's for sure! There hasn't been much goalmouth action to report.
Clayton Donaldson is a lucky man - he catches Middlesbrough's Emilio Nsue on the back of the ankle with a poor challenge. There was no malice in that, but it was clumbsy and must have hurt Nsue.
A few moments later, Maikel Kieftenbeld's elbow catches Gaston Ramirez right on the nose.
No punishment are dished out by the referee on either occasion. Ramirez has gone off for some treatment.
We are back to XI v XI now as Birmingham's Jonathan Grounds returns to the field, with what looks like vaseline on the top of his patched-up head. Middlesbrough didn't trouble the Blues defence while he was off the pitch.
Birmingham are down to 10 men for the moment, with Jonathan Grounds still receiving treatment off the field for that knock to the head.
You sense the first goal is crucial tonight, as in any game involving this Middlesbrough side.
They certainly don't concede many, so you'd back them to hold on to a lead tonight, if they can open the scoring.

There's nothing aggressive in that and Adomah receives a simple 'talking to', while Grounds receives some treatment. He'll have to go off temporarily.

"They are just a side that is built on that strong defensive foundation, that served them well last year.
"It's not been a massive transformation. There are more goals in the side this season with Jordan Rhodes, David Nugent and Gaston Ramirez, and they're in a position now where they can get automatic promotion."
Middlesbrough make a bright start and get men forward early on. Stewart Downing whips in a cross from the left but Birmingham get the ball clear. Some 5,000 away fans are making plenty of noise behind Birmingham's goal.
