Still no breakthough but real signs of encouragement for Manchester United in the manner Marcus Rashford is unsettling Palace's defence with his skill and direct running. Palace boss Alan Pardew came to the front of his technical area to issue the directive: "Calm down and keep the ball." Wise words.

Referee Mark Clattenburg still copping it from Palace fans for his failure to play advantage earlier.

Another feather in the Wayne Rooney cap! In the semi-final he got back to clear a Romelu Lukaku shot off the line and he now chases back to tackle Wilfried Zaha as the Palace man looked set to shoot!

Zaha had got the better of Daley Blind but it was Rooney to the rescue. Zaha thinks he was fouled...

Marcus Rashford glides past two men on the right, so quick, he eludes a challenge and then cuts one back to Anthony Martial arriving from the left. Martial side-foots a strike on goal but Joel Ward makes a great block.

"In general Palace have been organised but they've forgotten how to play. Zaha can't get the ball and they're too deep. You don't want your wingers picking it up 80 yards from goal.

"United are easily on top, they've done everything but score."

The Palace fans continue to make the lion's share of the noise - can you share noise? - as their side stay in the game. The first goal feels particularly significant today.

That is a top save from Wayne Hennessey to deny Juan Mata the opener! Scruffy build-up play, the loose ball drops to Mata on the right-hand fringe of the penalty area and his low, left-footed shot goes through someone's legs and Hennessey has to get down and make a one-handed stop. 

Wayne Rooney then tanks a 35-yard free-kick into the stands. 

Palace corner, Connor Wickham shoves Daley Blind over and referee Mark Clattenburg gives the free-kick. Palace coming back into the game now - but should they be ahead?
