West Ham start Premier League life at the London Stadium with a win while Bournemouth lose their second game of the season.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe told BBC Sport: "It was a tight game with little goalmouth action. It was going to swing on a moment of brilliance or a mistake. Unfortunately the mistake for us was going down to 10 men.

"We’ve been told about dissent - it's been drilled into us. If we lose our discipline we could have a flurry of red cards. Unfortunately we fell victim to that today. The first booking has really cost us.

"We played some good football but didn’t make the most of our positions. We had a better display in thew second half. I thought there was only one winner with 20 minutes left but the red card changed that.

"It’s been a tough run of games. We need to start picking up wins and points and build our confidence."

Bournemouth midfielder Harry Arter's first yellow card was for sarcastically applauding the assistant referee after he was adjudged to have handled the ball.

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe told Sky Sports: "It was a tight game with few chances. We were much improved in the second half and thought it was our game for the taking and but for one bit of a lack of discipline I think we would have won it. 

"We had the best opportunites in the game but we weren't clinical enough. How we didn't score, even with 10 men, I don't know, but we have to do better with that. 

"We lost our first two games last season so we know the harsh nature of the division but we have to move forward very quickly because the games don't get any easier."

West Ham boss Slaven Bilic hopes Andy Carroll's injury will keep him out for the lower end of the four-to-six-week estimate.

"Hopefully it will be four weeks. It’s nothing major. But it’s very sad for him and us. He’s a great centre-forward. It’s a big problem for us without him. We’re counting on him big time. 

"The game against Astra Giurgiu [next Thursday in the Europa League] is more important than the Manchester City one [next Sunday]. If we lose to Astra, we’re out of Europe but you can make up results in the Premier League."

West Ham boss Slaven Bilic says Michail Antonio's goalscoring performance on the left wing does not mean the end of him playing at right-back.

"Antonio is a guy who can play a few positions. He can be a great right-back like Antonio Valencia of Manchester United. He's dangerous and can threaten the goal," Bilic said.

"It’s going to be a mix of what we need, not just what they want. It’s about where the team needs them. They have to be humble and sacrifice for the team. He has to do the same. He’s a good lad and a good professional. 

"It was a great goal for us at a great time. We were compact, we wanted it. We didn't expect to play like Brazil tonight but we deserve it."

West Ham boss Slaven Bilic to BBC Sport: "It was difficult, we knew it would be. We were missing our most quality players - not one, not two, but four out of six, if we're talking about the last third of the pitch. 

"The guys did brilliantly. Bournemouth were better than us in the first 15 minutes of the second half but they didn't hurt us. 

"We just deserved it. We were pushing and wanted it more. We’re delighted to end the first game at this beautiful stadium with a win and a clean sheet."

West Ham captain Mark Noble tells Sky Sports: "The week we've had after Monday night, away to Chelsea and losing late on, and then going all the way to Romania and getting back in the early hours of Friday, to come and win at home is a great feeling.

"We lost Dimi (Payet) in the week for this game and Andy Carroll on Thursday night, as well as the others in pre-season. It's been tough for us with the Europa League as well.  

"We aren't just going to get wins given. We've got to earn them and that's what we did. The three points is extra special when it's the first game."

It's a good win for West Ham. They capitalised on Bournemouth being down to 10 men. It's a good start at their new home. Missing a lot of big players they'll be delighted to take three points against a gritty Bournemouth.
