  1. CLOSE!published at 48 mins

    Everton 0-0 Stoke

New half, same attacking Everton. Stoke's Joe Allen loses possession in a dangerous area and Ross Barkley, with two goals in his first three games, drags a low shot just wide of the post.

  2. Back under waypublished at 46 mins

    Everton 0-0 Stoke

Back under way at Goodison Park. Will we see a better Stoke in this half? Will Everton pay for their failure to convert their chances?

  3. The statspublished at 15:57 British Summer Time 27 August 2016

    Everton 0-0 Stoke

As the half-time stats suggest, Everton have been well on top. Stoke have not had a shot on target and been reduced to speculative, wild efforts from outside the box.

Mark Hughes' side have not even forced a corner and Stoke have had to clear two Everton attempts off their own goalline.

But it is still 0-0, and all to play for in the second half.

And Michael Oliver calls an end to the first half. Goalless at Goodison.

  7. Postpublished at 45 mins

    Everton 0-0 Stoke

More desperate defending from Stoke, this time Erik Pieters just about does enough to block Romelu Lukaku's effort, before Kevin Mirallas, the best player on the pitch in the first half, shoots wide with an overhead kick.

    Everton 0-0 Stoke

Marko Arnautovic, sporting a bleach blonde haircut that was all the rage throughout the summer, is limping around after being caught on the heel by Yannick Bolasie.

It looked accidental, and the Stoke man can carry on, although he still looks in a bit of discomfort.

  9. Postpublished at 39 mins

    Everton 0-0 Stoke

More worry for Stoke fans. This time it comes down the right-hand side with Gareth Barry releasing 19-year-old Mason Holgate.

He fizzes a low cross across the six-yard box, but his delivery cannot be finished off.

Mark Hughes will be very happy if his side go in at half-time with this game scoreless. The home side have created the better opportunities, but we remain goalless.

  10. GREAT SAVE!published at 33 mins

    Everton 0-0 Stoke

Everton are clearly on top at Goodison Park. Twice Romelu Lukaku's jinking runs are thwarted by Stoke defenders before Kevin Mirallas forces a fine save from Shay Given.

Mirallas links up well with Ross Barkley and is able to create some space for a shot from the edge of the penalty area, but Given acrobatically tips it over the top.

Good stuff from Everton. They may not have scored, but have given plenty for their fans to be encouraged about.

    Everton 0-0 Stoke

If you are trying to impress the England boss, what you don't want to do is score a diving header own goal.

Luckily for Ryan Shawcross, his blushes are spared as his header, from Ross Barkley's header back across the area, is straight at Stoke goalkeeper Shay Given.

A good spell of pressure this from the hosts. Can they get a goal for their efforts?

  12. Off the line againpublished at 26 mins

    Everton 0-0 Stoke

Stoke are living dangerously. Kevin Mirallas dinks in a lovely cross to the back post and Ashley Williams comes storming in and gets his head to the delivery.

It beats Given and is going in, until the long legs of Peter Crouch come to the rescue with a spectacular overhead kick off the line.

It's not what he is in the team to do, but a hugely valuable contribution from Crouch, in his first Premier League appearance of the season.

  13. Off the linepublished at 15:24 British Summer Time 27 August 2016

    Everton 0-0 Stoke

Romelu Lukaku, without a goal in 10 Premier League games, gets involved for the first time. The Belgium striker has a chance although a heavy touch sends him wider in the penalty area than he would have liked.

He can still get a shot in and Given is left rooted to the spot but Ryan Shawcross is in the right place to hack the ball off the line.

Shawcross is a one-time England international, could he be getting the call from Sam Allardyce?

You can't fault the Stoke players' ambition. Moments after Marko Arnautovic goes for the ambitious, Phil Bardsley also tries his luck from long range. It is a complete waste and a ball into the box would have been more lucrative. Bardsley's shot goes well wide.

Still only one shot on target from either side, with Shay Given easily saving from Kevin Mirallas earlier on.

Still an easy day for the goalkeepers. Marko Arnautovic tries a Hollywood effort from 30 yards for the visitors but it goes well over Maarten Stekelenburg's goal.

  17. YELLOW CARD - Barkley (Everton)published at 15:11 British Summer Time 27 August 2016

    9 mins

Stoke's Phil Bardsley dinks a cross to the back post and big Peter Crouch is positioning himself for an attempt at something acrobatic.

Unfortunately for him, and luckily for Everton, 19-year-old Mason Holgate is brave enough to head clear before the big man can go airborne.

A minute later we have our first yellow card of the day with Ross Barkley booked for tugging back Bardsley.

    Everton 0-0 Stoke

The first attempt of the match comes from Everton's Kevin Mirallas he gets in some early showboating with a nifty turn to create space on the edge of the penalty area but there is not too much pace in his low effort and it is easy for 40-year-old Shay Given.

  19. Postpublished at 4 mins

A quiet start at Goodison Park with Ross Barkley on the end of a crunching challenge from Joe Allen, before picking himself up. But not much to get excited about in terms of chances.
