Antonio Conte was never settling for two, he was constantly at his players in the game to make it three. Chelsea will be in the title fight and near the top all season. It's Chelsea's first clean sheet since 2015 at home, it was like the times of old with the crowd and atmosphere as well.

As for Burnley, their season won't be defined on games like this. They could have done with an extra man in midfield with the way Chelsea were passing it around. Burnley had a flurry in the second half and they will have better days.

  3. Wenger confirms double signingpublished at 17:18 British Summer Time 27 August 2016

    Watford 1-3 Arsenal

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger speaking to Sky Sports: “I believe we shot ourselves in the foot in first game and were under huge pressure. We had two difficult away games but today I believe we had a good solid performance.

“We had a good cushion at half time. At the moment we are not completely there physically and could see that in second half.

“Ozil is not physically there completely but what we want from Ozil is assists and goals and I hope he can get that this season, 10 or 15 goals plus the chances he creates.

“We have bought two players Mustafi and Perez. They will integrate into the team now and we will help them join squad. We had to work very hard to get signings done. We have not got any plans for anyone else now.”

Southampton boss Claude Puel: “It is disappointing this afternoon. It was a good game for the two teams but for the third game we had many possibilities to score. It was important for my players to show good character and spirit to find the equaliser. It is a better result for us just before the international break.

“It is interesting for the future but always important to take points and the next game we will see in our next game against Arsenal.

“Perhaps another player will come to Southampton but nothing is signed. It is a possibility to take one or two to add energy to the squad.”

  5. 'Keep believing'published at 17:07 British Summer Time 27 August 2016

    Leicester 2-1 Swansea

Swansea goalscorer Leroy Fer: "From 2-0 behind we got a good goal at the right time. We tried to score the second goal and we were strong in the end.

"I think we were unlucky but we can't concede goals like that (Leicester's second) from a corner.

"We keep saying it but keep doing it. We have to get better than that because if you concede those goals it can make a massive difference.

"We need to keep believing and do what what we did in last 20 minutes, when we could have made it 2-2 ,and take that into the next game."

Leicester striker and first goalscorer Jamie Vardy: "We were disappointed with the first game of the season but got a decent draw last week and played well and we just wanted to keep improving.

"To go two goals up and then hang on at the end, we got what we deserved.

"The ball was struggling to move in the puddles but that's English weather for you. We're just delighted to get the three points.

"I managed to get a ball over the top from Drinky (Danny Drinkwater) as usual and managed to put it away."

I think this is really interesting that Chelsea have maximum points.

They look like a side who, without European football, could lift the title.

Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford was comforted by his whole back four at the conclusion of that draw. The youngster produced four or five superb saves but was then at fault for the Saints' late equaliser.

It's a tough gig, playing in nets.

Peter White: This could be a golden era for Victor Moses. He's the most Antonio Conte winger you can imagine so he might actually get regular minutes.

Tom Chance: Good advantage from Mark Clattenburg leading up to Chelsea goal. Refs deserve credit when they get things right.
