Sunderland goalkeeper Vito Mannone will be out for at least three months and could require an operation after tearing elbow ligaments.

The 28-year-old Italian, who joined the Black Cats from Arsenal in 2013, was injured during a training session.

Manager David Moyes said he would "definitely" look to make a signing as Jordan Pickford, 22, is his only fit senior goalkeeper.

Moyes added the club had made a bid for Sevilla midfielder Vicente Iborra, and the newspapers are reporting this morning that Manchester City's Joe Hart could be on his way to the North East.

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown on new Arsenal signing Lucas Perez: "He has tremendous pace and that's a variation Arsenal need in that final third.

"At the moment a lot goes into Olivier Giroud and you need variety.

"You have to test the back line. This is the Jamie Vardy Arsenal wanted but in the shape of a Spanish player."

What I have seen of Southampton so far does not change my opinion that this is going to be their hardest season for a while.

I know their recruitment is very good but if you keep selling all of your best players then, sooner or later, it catches up with you.

As far as this game is concerned, I'm going for a draw, which will be a much better result for Sunderland. They are still trying to strengthen, especially in midfield.

  5. HALF-TIMEpublished at 13:20 British Summer Time 27 August 2016

    Tottenham 0-1 Liverpool

A humdinger of a half at the Lane. Liverpool lead through a penalty that I'm filing under 'soft.'

James Milner scored it, you can read all about it here.

  6. Everton 'looking to build something special'published at 13:18 British Summer Time 27 August 2016

Ronald Koeman's arrival coincides with the new ownership and they are looking to build something special.

There have already been responses from players. Leighton Baines said that there is a healthy respect for the manager.

They are more organised and fitter than last season. It seems a very happy camp at Everton.

  7. 'Ridiculous that Pardew is under pressure'published at 13:17 British Summer Time 27 August 2016

Crystal Palace v Bournemouth (15:00 BST)

    Mark Lawrenson
    Former Liverpool defender

I think it is ridiculous that Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew is already perceived to be under pressure., external

We have only had two league games, but supposedly it is because of Palace's poor run in the second half of last season - they did not win a league game between 19 December and 9 April.

I always think you should take the season as a whole anyway, but just looking at the above ignores Palace's run to the FA Cup final.

Also, Pardew has just spent £27m on Christian Benteke - why would you give him that sort of money and then give him two games to save his job?

  11. The early kick-offpublished at 13:04 British Summer Time 27 August 2016

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

No goals yet at White Hart Lane but it's been another brilliant watch thus far from Jurgen Klopp's side in London.

End-to-end, 100mph, a glorious chance for Philippe Coutinho and some bold goalkeeping from Michel Vorm.

Mike Henson is the man sticking across every second of that game.
