The Chinese family behind the failed takeover of Hull City remain "seriously interested" in buying the club.

An agreement to sell to a group led by Dai Yongge and Dai Xiu Li fell through amid reports that they did not meet the Premier League's owners' test.

But Li told the Daily Mail:, external "We still want Hull City and our ambition is to build the club and make it one of the strongest in England."

The consortium paid a seven-figure deposit before the deal collapsed.

The Hull Daily Mail , externalreports the sum paid was around £6m and the consortium's period of exclusivity is now over. At least one other consortium is interested in opening negotiations, the newspaper adds.

Pep Guardiola? No. Jose Mourinho? No. Mike Phelan? Yes.

Hull's caretaker boss has won the Premier League manager-of-the-month award for August after his side's impressive start to the season.

The 53-year-old took charge of the Tigers when Steve Bruce resigned in July after a breakdown in his relationship with vice-chairman Ehab Allam.

Phelan has yet to be handed the job on a permanent basis despite winning two of his opening three games while using just 13 players.

"It's an honour you don't expect, being caretaker manager," said Phelan. "It's a credit to the football club and to the players for all their endeavours that have given me this achievement."

    Conor McNamara
BBC MOTD commentator at Turf Moor

    "Inseparable, like twins.

"Both clubs were relegated in 2010. After three years in the Championship together, they were reunited in the top flight in 2014, only to be relegated alongside each other in 2015, and both promoted again in 2016.

"If Leicester made 2016 'Year Of The Fox', Hull almost made August 'Month Of The Tiger'.

"Only Marcus Rashford's late winner at the KCOM Stadium denied Mike Phelan's team an unbeaten start.

"Had David Meyler not blazed over just before, Hull might have gone into the international break level on points at the top."
