Arsenal have been run ragged in this second half in a re-run of what happened to them at Everton on Tuesday.

All the old questions will be asked if they lose this. Can they pull it around in the closing minutes?

  14. Arsenal on the rackpublished at 17:21 Greenwich Mean Time 18 December 2016

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Etihad Stadium

Arsenal are suffering here and Manchester City, as well as their fans, sense it. The Gunners need their big players to step up here, especially Mesut Ozil. He has been, to put it politely, peripheral.

    Manchester City 0-1 Arsenal

    Phil McNulty

Arsenal lead at half-time and will be regard that as a highly satisfactory first 45 minutes. One or two chances for Manchester City but the Gunners are probing away at City's defensive weaknesses.

Pep Guardiola's side look a little short of confidence and swagger - but Arsenal were in this position at Everton on Tuesday and lost.

Chances at both ends but real anxiety among Manchester City's fans every time Arsenal attack.

Alexis Sanchez has had a magnificent opening 20 minutes, dangerous on the ball and ordering his Arsenal team-mates around when he is not.

He looks the complete attacking player.

Touching tribute to an injured team-mate or completely over the top reaction to a player getting an injury many others in the game have suffered?

The decision by Manchester City's players to wear shirts sporting the name of Ilkay Gundogan, out for the rest of the season with knee ligament damage, has already polarised social media opinion.

Want my opinion? Thought not but I'll offer it anyway...nice thought but all a bit over the top. Where does this sort of thing stop?

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola's decision-making is clearly not governed by big price tags as £47.5m John Stones is once again dropped to the bench.

Guardiola makes two changes for this one, with Fernando coming in for Ilkay Gundogan, who is out for the rest of the season with knee ligament damage. Leroy Sane starts with Nolito as substitute.
