    HT: St Johnstone 0-0 Aberdeen

What do you reckon Dons fans?  Can your side get any closer to - or even surpass - Celtic this season? Or will Rangers’ return shake up the top four?

And what about St Johnstone? Manager Tommy Wright said this week that missing out on a fourth successive top-six finish would not be a failure. Do you agree?    Tweet us using hashtag #bbcsportscot

    St Johnstone 0-0 Aberdeen

So plenty of possession for Aberdeen, but few clear-cut chances to show for it. Saints haven't had too many sights of goal either, but came closest to a goal with that Swanson snap-shot just before the break.  Even stevens.

  3. CLOSE!published at 42 mins

    St Johnstone 0-0 Aberdeen

Great strike from Saints' Danny Swanson on the edge of the box after the Dons' defence fail to clear a corner, but keeper Joe Lewis is swiftly down to his left to make a superb save.  The rebound narrowly eludes Steven MacLean, who can't react quickly enough.

  4. YELLOW CARDpublished at 38 mins

    St Johnstone 0-0 Aberdeen

Graeme Shinnie advances down the left flank for Aberdeen and Graham Cummins grabs his arm as he goes past him. He picks up the second booking of the afternoon.

  5. YELLOW CARDpublished at 35 mins

    St Johnstone 0-0 Aberdeen

Saints midfielder Liam Craig is the first name into referee Willie Collum's notebook, after tugging back the advancing Graeme Shinnie. Wes Burns, attempting a Ronaldo-style 'up-and-down' free-kick, balloons it over the bar.

  6. Shot on goal for Dons!published at 33 mins

    St Johnstone 0-0 Aberdeen

Better from the visitors. A nice lay-off from Jayden Stockley on the edge of the box, and Ryan Jack strikes a sweet right-footed volley. But it's a comfortable save for Saints keeper Alan Mannus.

  7. Saints into their stridepublished at 30 mins

    St Johnstone 0-0 Aberdeen

The hosts have come back into it in the last 10 minutes or so, even if Aberdeen look more match-sharp, understandably so given this is their seventh game of the season already, and we're only a week into August.

But little to report in terms of further chances or incident, I'm afraid.

  8. No Rooney or McGinn for Dons?published at 12:41 British Summer Time 7 August 2016

    St Johnstone 0-0 Aberdeen

For those of you wondering why Adam Rooney (pictured, above) and Niall McGinn are not starting today, Dons boss Derek McInnes explained before kick-off that with Rooney playing the full 90 minutes - most of it up front on his own - and McGinn 84 minutes in Thursday's Europa League defeat at Maribor, which was played in 30C heat, he's opted to 'freshen them up'.

McGinn, remember, was involved in Northern Ireland's Euro 2016 campaign this summer and only had a week off on his return.

  9. CLOSE!published at 13 mins

    St Johnstone 0-0 Aberdeen

Despite Aberdeen's early pressure, the first decent chance falls to Saints. Brian Easton's shot is diverted into the path of Graham Cummins, whose effort is blocked by Dons keeper Joe Lewis.

  10. Dons dominate early doorspublished at 10 mins

    St Johnstone 0-0 Aberdeen

After Saturday’s hors d’oeuvre of four games, today’s double header serves up an appetising main course.

Later, at 14:15 BST, champions Celtic set the ball rolling on their bid for a sixth straight title against Hearts at Tynecastle, where they effectively wrapped up last season’s title with a 3-1 victory on 30 April.

But currently it’s St Johnstone – fourth for the last two seasons – against Aberdeen, runners-up to Celtic for the last two campaigns.

We're 10 minutes in, and Aberdeen have dominated possession so far.  But nothing to show for it as yet.

Unfortunately the system we use to provide this text service has been 'down' - as the technical folk like to say - until now.

But without further ado, on with 'Scottish Super Sunday'.

The top four from last season, all meeting on the opening weekend of the new Premiership season.  Funny how those random fixtures computers work isn’t it?
