Brighton missed out on automatic promotion last season on goal difference and then lost in the play-off semi-finals to Sheffield Wednesday.

However, the Seagulls have kept the core of the squad together and are expected to challenge at the top of the Championship again this season.

They have set down an early marker with a 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest this evening.

Seagulls fans will be delighted that Glenn Murray is off the mark in his second spell at the club, but that late injury for David Stockdale will be a concern for boss Chris Hughton.

You can read the match report by my colleague Tom Garry here.

I lost my brother six years ago and it is his birthday today. I was a bit emotional, with all my family here. The lads showed great desire. Last season was very disappointing and we deserved better but we need to move on. We have a new season and want to do our best.

It was a very good performance. Brighton controlled it after the first goal and got the clean sheet. I hope David Stockdale is okay as that clash at the end didn't look good

We'll be going for a bit longer after that delay for treatment for David Stockdale.

Glenn Murray wins a free-kick just outside the Forest area and then heads narrowly wide from Oliver Norwood's delivery.

Murray was clearly offside though, so it wouldn't have counted.

Brighton keeper David Stockdale is back on his feet but he's going to come off.

Centre-back Lewis Dunk has stripped off his shirt to put on Stockdale's shirt and will take the gloves for the last couple of minutes.

An outfield player in goal could add some late excitement here, with the game safe for Brighton.

Brighton have a late worry here over keeper David Stockdale.

He collided with left-back Gaetan Bong while collecting a cross and is down getting treatment.

It looks to be an ankle injury for Stockdale. He might not be able to continue. Brighton have used all their substitutes.

Dale Stephens tests Forest keeper Stephen Henderson from the free-kick.

Brighton have sealed victory with a clinical counter-attack.

Dale Stephens nicks the ball off Jamie Patterson in the Albion area and sets Anthony Knockaert away down the right,

The Frenchman drives at the Forest defence and released Sam Baldock, who made a clever run between the centre-backs.

Baldock bursts into the area and draws out Stephen Henderson, before cutting the ball back to Glenn Murray for an easy tap-in - and Murray's second goal of the evening.

Pajtim Kasami drifts a ball into the Albion box looking for Apostolos Vellios, but the Greek striker is not on the same wavelength.

Kasami has been at the heart of the best things going forward for the visitors tonight.

Meanwhile, Albion striker Glenn Murray and Forest centre-back Damien Perquis have a little coming together but referee Andrew Madley steps in before it gets too heated.
