A bright start from England with a number of players obviously wanting to impress, but not a lot since and I feel for Harry Kane, who's isolated. Indeed, it was 13 minutes before he even had a touch of the ball...

John Stones is into midfield again, he seems to have a licence to get forward whenever he can. Eric Dier or Jordan Henderson will slot in if needed.

It's so slow though, the build-up. Pedestrian. Norwich city centre/Dixons.

Tottenham's Christian Eriksen puts Denmark ahead in their World Cup qualifier against Armenia in Copenhagen.

That's a good final ball though, Kyle Walker gets some space on the right and flashes in a dangerous low ball, Harry Kane is ahead of his marker but he mistimes his shot and doesn't reach the ball.

The final ball is still poor and the link-up play with Harry Kane has been non-existent. Not good enough yet.

John Stones chops his man down with an agricultural challenge and Harry Kane has to defend really well to clear. Adam Lallana then Gegenpresses the life out of a man on the edge of the box and starts a rapid England counter which ends with goalkeeper Matus Kozacik rather flapping at a cross. 

George in Sandhurst: It's about time that people, but mainly the media, realise that England are not like Brazil of the 70s. Sam is trying to do the best with what he has. Same players, different manager. So what? Give him a chance! Come on England!

Max from Cardiff: Why is it only England football fans who obsess over "passion" or "wanting to win"? Do they think Team GB did so well at the Olympics because they wanted to win more than other countries?

Leicester City winger Bartosz Kapustka has the first goal of World Cup 2018 qualifying in Europe.

The 19-year-old puts Poland 1-0 up away to Kazakhstan. Kapustka cost Leicester a reported £7.5m last month.

England goalkeeper Joe Hart is under the microscope after his dreadful Euro 2016 and his removal from Manchester City by Pep Guardiola - and he gave the Slovakia fans a bit of excitement there by swiping a misplaced clearance straight to the opposition.

John Stones was actually higher up the pitch than Wayne Rooney in their latest attack. 'Attack' might be exaggerating it, spell of possession. England moving it neatly enough until they get to within 30 yards from goal.

Sound familiar? 

Didn't Big Sam say Wayne Rooney would be playing in a more advanced position? It doesn't appear to be the case after the early stages of this game as his touchmap shows...

Adam Lallana almost gets a shot away from a second ball after Wayne Rooney's loft over the top. Harry Kane has only had two touches thus far, he's not been in the game.

Slovakia send the big men up for the free-kick, and Gary Cahill clears well.

An angry, drunk man tried to engage me in a lengthy conversation about Harry Kane taking corners when I was in Lille this summer. Thankfully I managed to shake him off.
