    Mark Noble (45 mins)

    Coolly done.

West Ham captain Mark Noble is the ice man in a roasting stadium, running up and putting his penalty down the middle.

Slaven Bilic gets his away goal on the stroke of half time.

  6. PENALTY TO WEST HAMpublished at 44 mins

    Astra Giurgiu 0-0 West Ham

Out of nothing, a penalty for West Ham.

The experienced Cristian Sapunaru raises his left hand to a cross and handles the ball.

    Referee points to the spot.

    Astra Giurgiu 0-0 West Ham

Brilliant wing play from Gokhan Tore for the first time in the match.

The squat, left-footed winger, in the mould of Stoke's Xherdan Shaqiri, beats his man, and stands up a cross which Astra clear at the back post.

  8. YELLOW CARDpublished at 41 mins

    Astra Giurgiu 0-0 West Ham

West Ham full-back Sam Byram is the first man into the referee's book for a needless challenge on Alexandru Ionita.

The Romanian lad has had some punishment dished out to him today.

  9. GREAT SAVE!published at 40 mins

    Astra Giurgiu 0-0 West Ham

Astra fail to deal with a long ball up front and defender Fabricio concedes a corner.

It's curled in by Gokhan Tore and Argentine striker Jonathan Calleri gets up highest to get his head onto the ball, but Silviu Lung leaps to his right to rip the ball away.

    Excellent save.

    Astra Giurgiu 0-0 West Ham

    Very, very ambitious.

Junior Morais steps up from left-back and smashes a drive from at least 40-yards out. It's directed well and it's on target but would have to be something very special to beat Darren Randolph from there.

Randolph collects and looks up with the expression of a man who is saying, 'why did you bother?'

    Astra Giurgiu 0-0 West Ham

Astra go the direct route this time, playing a long punt upfield to Daniel Niculae, but West Ham goalkeeper Darren Randolph is wise to it and rushes off his line to smack the ball to safety.

Sweeper-keeping from Randolph. Man City boss Pep Guardiola will have applauded that one.

    Astra Giurgiu 0-0 West Ham

The man who was fouled, Alexandru Ionita, picks himself up and whips a lovely free-kick over the wall...

...but it is comfortable for Darren Randolph, who skips across his line to gather at head height.

Now then. A rash challenge from Reece Oxford on Alexandru Ionita on the edge of the box sees Astra with a free-kick in a promising position...

    Astra Giurgiu 0-0 West Ham

Aah, he can't quite connect. This time Astra can find a man with a cross, but cannot capitalise.

Japanese player Takayuki Seto sees the headlines after being found on the edge of the box, but his first-time volley goes horribly wrong and dribbles away to safety.

Had he connected properly, it could have been a spectacular finish into the top corner.

    Astra Giurgiu 0-0 West Ham

The build-up is nicely done by Astra, but their delivery in the final third is poor. The radar on their crossing off and the West Ham goalkeeper and defence have not had too much to worry about.

Slaven Bilic will take that. He'll be keen to take an away goal back to England for the return leg.

    Astra Giurgiu 0-0 West Ham

Not sure how, but Astra do knock the ball around well on this cow field of a pitch. Some neat intricate play comes to nothing in the end as a cross from the right is poor and lone front man Daniel Niculae is unable to get to it.

Angelo Ogbonna and the much-wanted Reece Oxford is West Ham's centre-back pairing today.

Forward Enner Valencia stretches out his knee on the sideline and hobbles gingerly back on. It does not look too serious and he is OK to continue for now.

  18. Postpublished at 18 mins

    Astra Giurgiu 0-0 West Ham

Oh no, Enner Valencia is down. It looked like he got his foot trapped in the pitch in trying to block the ball. He is holding his right knee.

This is the last thing Slaven Bilic will want to see after Andre Ayew was ruled out for four months.

  19. Postpublished at 15 mins

    Astra Giurgiu 0-0 West Ham

    Filipe Teixeira is everywhere.

After making an excellent clearance at one end, the 35-year-old gallops to the other end and almost manages to squeeze one in at the front post, but Darren Randolph gets down to smother.

It has been a decent start to the match.

  20. CLOSE!published at 12 mins

    Astra Giurgiu 0-0 West Ham

West Ham full-back Sam Byram gets forward for the first time and earns a corner.

It's swung in by Gokhan Tore, and Michail Antonio leaps like gymnast Max Whitlock to get his head on the ball and with the goalkeeper flapping, the ball is cleared off the line by Filipe Teixeira.

Antonio connected well with it, but cannot convert.
