Cynical from Boro's Marten de Roon. Dimitri Payet is on another run but De Roon brings him down just outside the area. Payet picks himself up to take the free-kick but his effort comes back off the wall. Alvaro Arbeloa powers the rebound just wide.

What a goal. Dimitri Payet picks up the ball on the left, glides past Boro's Marten de Roon and then continues his run across the box. He goes past three more defenders before angling in a low shot. Absolute quality.

Boro win a corner after Hammers keeper Adrian has to rush out and block a Jordan Rhodes shot. Viktor Fischer sends in the set-piece and Stuani rises highest to send in a header.

Mark Noble thought he had cleared the ball before it crossed the line but ref Neil Swarbrick awards the goal after the goal decision system says it crossed the line.

Michail Antonio has the first shot of the second half and it's not one to write home about. His 22-yard shot doesn't have the power or direction to worry Boro keeper Victor Valdes and he easily gathers.

We are go for the second half and West Ham's on-loan striker Simone Zaza has come on for the disappointing Gokhan Tore.

Boro had more of the ball but West Ham went closest when Mark Noble hit the crossbar.

That's it for the first half. One shot on target - from Boro - but some goalmouth action late on is hopefully a sign of things to come.

Boro send a route one ball into the Hammers box and keeper Adrian can't gather as he goes for the ball with Jordan Rhodes, whose hooked shot with his back to goal is cleared away.
