Gokhan Tore latches on to a Dimitri Payet cross but sends a volley over the bar. It's the sort of effort that gets you points in rugby.

West Ham go on the counter-attack and skipper Mark Noble sends a 22-yard shot just wide. Decent effort.

After letting in 16 league goals in six games, the Hammers are more concerned about keeping a clean sheet and you can't blame them. 

Middlesbrough have had more of the ball but are struggling to work home keeper Adrian.

It's frustrating to see a Slaven Bilic side playing as bad as they are this season after the previous campaign. What West Ham have shown us this year they need more players to stand up and be counted. There's a lot of pressure on Dimitri Payet but he'll be looking round and thinking 'lads come on, help me out here'.

The Hammers are starting to get the upper hand. Dimitri Payet cuts inside and sends a curler wide before Michail Antonio has a header blocked by George Friend.

Dimitri Payet dummies and feints past a defender and unleashes a left-foot shot which is well blocked by a sliding Calum Chambers.

Jordan Rhodes through on West Ham's goal after being found by a long ball forward but is flagged offside. That was a close decision.

Pedro Obiang is going to have to be on his best behaviour now. The Hammers midfielder is booked for a hefty challenge on George Friend.

It looks like Sam Byram got injured after throwing himself forward to head a ball clear. He was holding his hamstring as he went down and that will be worrying for Hammers boss Slaven Bilic.

A distressed looking Sam Byram is put on a stretcher, lifted on to a buggy and wheeled off the pitch. Alvaro Arbeloa comes on to replace him in a straight swap at right-back.

Former Middlesbrough goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer: "It was always going to be tough for Middlesbrough. They were very happy with the first three results but the next couple they have really struggled.

"All games are incredibly tough."
