    What a start!

Wes Hoolahan immediately vindicates Martin O'Neill's decision to start him as he plays a sublime ball to split open the Moldova defence and Shane Long is on it in a flash. He still has work to do, with the keeper closing down the gap, but he keeps his cool to slot into the bottom corner.

    Lovely goal.

No funny business during the team photos. Standard stuff.

Right, all the usual pre-match stuff is done. Next up, kick-off.

Excellent stuff from a brass band during the national anthems, particularly the trumpet players.

The four or five hundred travelling Irish fans are in good voice and good spirits. They are up for this one.

Most people have put a bet on football, probably even a few daft ones that have no chance of coming off.

Here's one of the most bizarre bets I've ever heard of. After watching England beat Moldova in 1997, comedian Tony Hawks bet his mate that he could find and beat all 11 Moldova players that played that day.

His mate probably thought that was an easy £100 he'd make, but Hawks actually followed through with the bet. A book was made about it. And a film that starred Pat Cash. Natch.

Anyway, the players are walking out onto the pitch as I type. Five minutes until kick off.

Good effort by these fans who have traveled to the game. It is taking place in Chisinau, Moldova's capital.

Moldova are ranked below Aruba, who have a smaller population than Slough

This, in theory, should be as close to a gimme as you can get in international football.

Moldova are ranked 161st in the world, one place below Aruba - who have population smaller than Slough.

They've lost both their games Group D, failing to score a single goal while conceding seven in the process.

But then, not many people will have expected Scotland and Wales to draw with Lithuania and Georgia respectively.

    Moldova v Republic of Ireland

Republic of Ireland manager Martin O'Neill: "We have a tough task ahead and the players are tuned in ready to go."

Asked about his midfielder with Jeff Hendrick and Robbie Brady missing out, he said:

"Glenn Whelan plays every week in what is regarded as the hardest league in the world and Wes (Hoolahan) has come in to add artistry to our side if he is allowed to play.

"It is up to us to be strong tonight."

  12. Now 'more pressure' against Serbiapublished at 19:17 British Summer Time 9 October 2016

    Wales 1-1 Georgia

More from Wales manager Chris Coleman: "Against Georgia at home, you have got to take three points but it means the next game against Serbia here there is more pressure to get three points.

"We have to deal with that.

"We are disappointed. There are a lot of tired legs, the players are shattered. We went for it with the formation and that left us susceptible. They got in once or twice and we got away with one or two but maybe a bit more composure from us and it could have been different."

  13. We could have lost - Colemanpublished at 19:15 British Summer Time 9 October 2016

    Wales 1-1 Georgia

Wales manager Chris Coleman: "I think people are looking at it as two points dropped but it might have been two points gained at the end of the day. It was the dream start but then we got too comfortable and the whole atmosphere on the pitch was too comfortable. We had to take care of business but we were punished.

"We are disappointed. The two games in four days is tough, not easy, but it is what it is and we have to get on with it. Once we got the goal we had to take care of the job and we didn't do that.

"We could have lost it in the second half."

  15. 'It is definitely two points dropped'published at 19:07 British Summer Time 9 October 2016

    Wales 1-1 Georgia

Wales midfielder Dave Edwards: "We are massively disappointed. In the first half we played reasonably well, created lots of chances but after they got the goal back we were very poor.

"We are bitterly disappointed. We went away from what we know best and were all over the place at times. That is down to the players and it is definitely two points dropped.

"We would never under estimate them. Their results in the last few years have been strong, they beat Spain and Scotland. We knew it would be a difficult game.

"Going 1-0 up so early we should have put the game to bed, if anything we were holding on at the end.

"It will be such a tight group. I am sure Georgia will take points off other teams. The Serbia game is massive and the Irish game, they are games we have got to win."

    John Hartson
Ex-Wales striker on BBC Radio 5 live

Wales had a sloppy 20 minute spell when they lost their shape and conceded the goal.

They lost their discipline. Wales looked really comfortable in the first half an hour but they let Georgia come back into the game.

Georgia possibly should have won the game.

Wales were ever-so disappointing. A game they should have won, they have taken two points from their last two games.
