  3. Can United end long wait for cup hat-trick?published at 19:29 British Summer Time 20 September 2016

    Morton v Dundee Utd (19:45)

Dundee United have won the League Cup twice but, again, it was back in the age of fire-hazard nylon strips when people were buying Dr Hook records.

Willie Pettigrew scored twice and Paul Sturrock got the other as Aberdeen were beaten 3-0 in a 1979 replay.

Sturrock got two as United defended the trophy against neighbours Dundee in the following season, with Davie Dodds opening the scoring in another 3-0 success.

Since then they have been runners-up on five occasions.

  4. Morton aim to roll back the yearspublished at 19:25 British Summer Time 20 September 2016

    Morton v Dundee Utd (19:45)

It's been a while since Morton last reached the last four in the League Cup. In 1979 the Greenock side beat Kilmarnock 3-2 to reach the semis, where they lost out 2-1 to Aberdeen at Hampden.

The Ton had a few tasty players back in those days of perms and tight shorts; Andy Ritchie, Neil Orr, Roy Baines, Jim Tolmie and big Joe McLaughlin... All class acts.

"This performance augurs well for next summer, where much of the opposition will be at least as good as this Iceland side."

Former Scotland international Shelley Kerr on BBC Alba: "Iceland scored from the first opportunity they had which was very disappointing from a Scotland perspective because they dominated the first 38 or 39 minutes.
