  7. 'We're conceding goals to a bang average team'published at 11:25

    Slovakia 3-0 Scotland

Former Scotland midfielder John Collins spoke to BBC Scotland earlier to offer his views on the national side's troubles.

"With the other result going the way it did in the group and England dropping two points, it's kept us in it and given us hope," he said.

"It's been a disappointing four or five days and the results haven't been what we wanted. We go a goal behind [against Slovakia] and I've got to say that after we did go behind we got better and passed it better.

"We looked more creative but still lacked that cutting edge and that final pass, final shot. We're conceding goals to a bang average team. We're not scoring goals and we're not creating enough."

Get Involved - Gordon Strachan's futurepublished at 11:12 British Summer Time 12 October 2016

    BBC Sport Scotland Facebook page

Johnny Bochee: Same negative system that saw us fail in the last campaign is seeing us fail again. Playing two holding midfielders at home to a team ranked 107th in the world is a joke. The big lump of a centre forward was effective 20 years ago, not anymore. Football has moved on, we haven't and nor will we under Strachan.

Craig Watson: Sack him now. Get someone interim in to look after the England game then appoint someone permanent after that match. Next competitive match is then in March so time for the new guy to get sorted.

John Kerr: He should resign today, if not he should be handed his P45. If he remains in charge we could easily suffer another four defeats in the group.

"Well, without having looked at the table [World Cup qualifying Group F] I would've thought it was a disaster. But this morning to see we're only three points behind England - there's still a long way to go. Other teams are slipping up and everyone's cutting everybody else's throats. It's not a lost cause but we need to start fixing the performances."

"I'm not sure if it's Gordon Strachan to blame. I would like to think he'd probably stay on. Who knows? I'm still backing Gordon Strachan but if there's another disaster then he will have to go..."

  12. Strachan the man for Scotland - Canningpublished at 10:55

    Kenny Crawford

Hamilton Academical player-manager Martin Canning believes Scotland should continue with Gordon Strachan as boss of the national team.

Strachan is facing criticism after only taking one point from World Cup qualifiers against Lithuania and Slovakia.

"I don't think it's always the answer to look to replace people and blame people," Canning told BBC Scotland.

"You've got to stick together as a country. It's our national team and we've all got to get behind them."

  14. How did Scotland's players rate in Slovakia?published at 10:25

BBC Sport Scotland pundit Steven Thompson has cast a critical eye over Gordon Strachan's side's display in Slovakia.

    David Marshall (goalkeeper) 7

"He made a number of great saves in the match and prevented the scoreline from being embarrassing."

    Callum Paterson (right-back) 5

"The Hearts 21-year-old tried to get forward and defended reasonably well in one-on-ones with the dangerous Robert Mak."

  15. Problems mount for Gordon Strachan's sidepublished at 10:15 British Summer Time 12 October 2016

Since defeating the Republic of Ireland at Celtic Park in November 2014, Scotland have played nine competitive matches and won only three of them - against Gibraltar, twice, and Malta. There have been defeats to Germany, Georgia and Slovakia, and damaging draws away to the Republic of Ireland and at home to Poland and Lithuania.

Under Strachan, Scotland have failed to deliver a defining victory over a leading side in their group, or when it was needed most. At the critical moment, there has been a collapse of will. In Dublin, in Tbilisi and in Trvana, Scotland have performed poorly, failing to assert themselves, to play with confidence or poise.

When Strachan's side defeated Ireland at Celtic Park, the display merged conviction with spirit and aplomb. The players performed, they refused to buckle under the pressure. That was thought to be a reflection of the progress the manager was making, but instead it has turned out to be the high watermark.

He has not found that balance of endeavour, ability and heart when he has needed it again. That is why it is legitimate to wonder if another manager could. Scotland's results once told of Strachan having improved the team; they now tell of a side that is losing its way.

  18. Focus is on players - Strachanpublished at 10:00

Scotland boss Gordon Strachan says he is not thinking about himself despite coming under increasing pressure following a 3-0 World Cup qualifying loss in Slovakia.

Scotland now sit fourth in Group F with four points from three games after Tuesday's defeat in Trnava.

"The people who I feel sorry for are the players," said Strachan. "They're the ones I'm thinking about.

"I'm proud of them. The second group you feel sorry for are the supporters."
