    Theo Walcott (42 mins)

Theo Walcott's 100th club goal! Brilliantly timed run to glance in at the near post from Hector Bellerin's cross. Just want Arsenal needed with half-time approaching.

    Arsenal 0-1 Stoke

Incidentally, referee Lee Mason didn't actually book Granit Xhaka for his elbow on Joe Allen that conceded the penalty. It was pretty stupid from Xhaka but I still think it wasn't malicious.

Nearly another opening for Stoke but Marko Arnautovic struggles to get the ball from under his feet and the Arsenal defence swarm on him to snuff out the chance.

It looked like a penalty to me initially, because Granit Xhaka goes over the top on Joe Allen.

Xhaka does something stupid every game he plays in, he's on the edge for no reason.

    Arsenal 0-1 Stoke

Stoke have spent the majority of the match defending their own area but nonetheless lead through Charlie Adam's well-taken spot-kick, scored on his 31st birthday.

In the heat-map below, that's the Stoke box at the bottom. Adam's presence on the Arsenal penalty spot at the top is very much against the general theme.

Expect the red glow of Stoke's defending to burn ever brighter as they protect this lead.

    Arsenal 0-1 Stoke

Incredibly, Charlie Adam is still only 31. No offence, Charlie.

    Arsenal 0-1 Stoke

What's Petr Cech up to here? He runs out of his area and heads behind himself while trying to deal with a long, high ball. Lucky it didn't drop for Marko Arnautovic.

    Arsenal 0-1 Stoke

Nearly a chance for Alexis Sanchez but Bruno Martins Indi just gets across to stick in a foot and clear after Hector Bellerin fired across the area.

Joe Allen's touch was a little heavy, but he nicked the ball before the challenge. It was a very soft penalty to give away. Anywhere else in the pitch it is a foul, so it is a penalty. A little against the run of play.

No doubt about the penalty. Charlie Adam went to the right and Petr Cech went to his left.

    Arsenal 0-1 Stoke

Arsenal haven't lost in the league since the opening day, when Liverpool won 4-3 at the Emirates. Stoke have only conceded five in the past nine games so the Gunners have got their work cut out.

    Charlie Adam, penalty (29 mins)

Very cool from Charlie Adam, sending Petr Cech the wrong way after such a long wait. Stoke lead and a first win at Arsenal in 35 years is on.

  12. PENALTY TO STOKEpublished at 27 mins

    Arsenal 0-0 Stoke

Joe Allen is down and Stoke have a penalty! Xhaka catches him with an elbow. It looked accidental but that really hurt. It's a yellow card and Allen has been cut in the incident. Charlie Adam waits patiently.

  13. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 25 mins

    Arsenal 0-0 Stoke

Arsenal forced to make an early change - Mustafi has a hamstring problem and is replaced by Hector Bellerin.

A chance to draw breath and create an opening. That's a real chance for Joe Allen but he side-foots wide.

  15. Postpublished at 22 mins

    Arsenal 0-0 Stoke

Stoke are struggling to get hold of the ball here but they have all 11 men behind the ball as Arsenal probe for an opening. It's hoofed clear and a foul on Marko Arnaoutovic by Shkodran Mustafi gives them a chance to draw breath.

    Arsenal 0-0 Stoke

Arsenal still attacking down the right and a long ball gives Mesut Ozil something to chase but Bruno Martins Indi is able to shepherd the ball out.

Nacho Monreal appears to be struggling, feeling his thigh. He has had treatment and is back on the pitch for now.

    Attack down the right much?

When you've got the pace of Theo Walcott out there, it's certainly not a bad option.

Stoke's Erik Pieters and Marc Muniesa have been doubling up trying to keep the forward at bay.

So far it's working, but Lee Grant had to chip in with a very good stop to deny Walcott the opening goal. Arsenal are knocking on the door.

    Arsenal 0-0 Stoke

Arsenal are dominating now. A corner to the Gunners, it's played back to Granit Xhaka who curls a cross over but it's too strong for Laurent Koscielny.

This had been a bright and breezy start. Both sides have been guilty of giving the ball away. I don't think this will be goalless... That will be the kiss of death.
