The three points go to Tottenham. It was not pretty at times but it's job done nevertheless. 

For Hull the struggles continue, but there was at least some reasons for optimism in that display.

Nice touch from the Tottenham fans here as they pay tribute to their former players. 

"There's only one Michael Dawson" is followed moments later by "Ryan Mason, he's one of our own". 

Hull are praying for the final whistle here but Spurs have a free-kick

Eriksen stands over it but his shot hit the wall. 

The ball eventually comes to Harry Winks to shoot ferociously from distance but it's just wide.

Tottenham are a long way from done here, and Hull heads are in danger of vacating White Hart Lane. 

A misplaced pass from Andrew Robertson creates another chance for the hosts, with Sissoko playing in Wanyama who went down on the edge of the area, prompting more howls for a penalty from the home crowd. 

Again, nothing doing from Mr Marriner.

Christian Eriksen really wants his hat-trick. 

He collects the ball outside the area and does not hesitate to rain in a shot on David Marshall's goal. It's low, firm and on target but easy enough for the Hull goalkeeper to gather.

Hull respond to going two goals down by bringing on record signing Ryan Mason, another Spurs old boy to join Huddlestone, Livermore and Dawson.

Sam Clucas makes way.

Hull very close to an equaliser there. 

Jake Livermore, who has played very well tonight, was picked out down the right channel and saw his first shot charged down. He retrieved the loose ball and had a second crack, but this time the boot of Hugo Lloris got in the way. 

Hull's breakaway followed a decent penalty shout for Spurs at the other end, as Christian Eriksen went down under pressure from Andrew Robertson. 

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is unimpressed.

Hull's Curtis Davies is the second name in referee Andre Marriner's book after an agricultural challenge on Moussa Sissoko. 

No arguments there.

Spurs force their first corner of the half but once more their threat fizzles out. Hull come away with it and Sam Clucas' long ball forward requires Hugo Lloris to do his sweep-keeper bit, hoofing the ball clear on the volley 15 yards outside his box.

Just a little bit of frustration audible among the home crowd now. 

They're struggling to get going at the start of this half and when a half-chance does present itself, Victor Wanyama's effort from distance is very tame.

Hull straight on the attack and they force an early corner... followed seconds later by another. 

The ball pings around in the area after Snodgrass delivers before the offside flag ultimately snuffs out the danger for the hosts.

Hull get us under way for the second half.

So, Christian Eriksen's goal is all that separates these two teams at the break. 

Spurs have clearly had the best of it with 13 shots to Hull's four, but the Tigers have been right in this match. 

But don't take my word for it. Those eggheads at Opta have produced a graphic showing that Hull's average positions on the pitch are more or less on a par with Spurs, with full-back Andrew Robertson, in particular, pushing on down the left.

There's something you don't see every day.

Spurs centre-back Jan Vertonghen went haring up the field and suddenly found himself inside the Hull penalty area, whereupon he decided to attempt to slalom his way through the entire Tigers' backline. 

It's clearly not something the big Belgian is used to doing but he made a good fist of it, beating two or three men before sheer weight of amber-and-black-clad defenders crowded him out. 

Just as Hull are enjoying their best spell of the match, Spurs remind the visitors what they're all about. 

Dele Alli sprang a dozing Hull backline to latch on to Eric Dier's long ball to create a shooting chance in the area, but Hull goalkeeper David Marshall was more than equal to it, getting down low to his right to make a smart stop.

Seconds before that Spurs had a half-shout for a penalty when Eriksen's cross hit the elbow of Maguire, but referee Andre Marriner was not interested.

Hull's best chance of the match arrives and it's well deserved. They've come into this much more as the half has worn on.

Andrew Robertson's low cross was met by the toe-end of Jake Livermore, but there was not enough on the effort and Hugo Lloris saved.
