    Tottenham 1-0 Hull

Hull aren't being overawed by any means here.

They again find themselves well advanced up the field and Sam Clucas sends over a cross aimed at Adama Diomande but the Norway international is not strong enough in a challenge with Danny Rose and the chance is gone.

    Tottenham 1-0 Hull

That was better from a Hull perspective.

Spurs' attack broke down after a poor pass from Victor Wanyama and Jake Livermore led the Hull counter with an unchallenged 50-yard run.

The former Spurs man exchanged passes with Adama Diomande before firing in a low shot that Hugo Lloris dealt with comfortably.

Ultimately not a great effort but an encouraging passage of play at least.

    Tottenham 1-0 Hull

Hull are struggling to respond here and as Spurs attack again, Harry Maguire crudely hauls down Moussa Sissoko and picks up the game's first booking.

Eriksen takes the free-kick from just his kind of range, but it comes to nothing.

This was too easy for the hosts.

Jan Vertonghen's long punt forward took Hull right-back Ahmed Elmohamady out of the game, allowing Danny Rose to charge into the box.

Elmohamady managed to get back but Rose turned neatly inside and laid the ball off for the in-rushing Christian Eriksen to blast high into the net.

    It's been coming.

    Tottenham 0-0 Hull

Spurs are getting into their stride here. A good cross from Kyle Walker needs a fine defensive header from Michael Dawson to avert the danger.

    Tottenham 0-0 Hull

First real opening for the hosts. Moussa Sissoko gets into a shooting postion but Hull's Curtis Davies gets his boot in the way to take the sting out of the effort.

Spurs old boy Tom Huddlestone is then called on to intervene when Christian Eriksen tries to pick out Dele Alli in the area.

Nothing much to choose between them so far.

Spurs, it seems, have gone with three at the back, with Dier slotting in alongside Vertonghen and Alderweireld.

A lively start here. Hull got the ball into the Spurs box almost straight from kick-off then the hosts broke downfield and created an opening for Dele Alli which was charged down.

    • They have won only three of their last 13 matches in all competitions (D5, L5).

    • Hull have five points from their last five games, having lost the previous six in a row.
    • They have scored six goals in those five matches, double the tally from the six previous fixtures.
    • The Tigers could equal the club's top-flight record of six consecutive away defeats, set from January to April 2010.
    • Mike Phelan's side have conceded 32 goals this season, the second worst record in Europe's five biggest leagues behind Cagliari's 37.
    • Robert Snodgrass has been directly involved in half of Hull's 14 league goals this season with five goals and two assists. No other Tigers player has been involved in more than two.

    Mark Lawrenson

Tottenham are clearly a good side but there is a 'but', and the but is there are a lot of games when they are ordinary and don't have a cutting edge. This should not be one of them.

    Prediction: 3-0

    Match of the Day commentator

After just a second defeat of the season at Old Trafford, this might have been Spurs' choice of fixture to get back to winning ways.

Six draws so far have been a frustration, as have the defeats by Chelsea and Manchester United.

While Spurs have struggled to unlock the defence of their rivals for the Champions League places recently, they will be looking forward to facing a Hull defence that have shipped 16 goals in losing five consecutive away games.

Mike Phelan's team know it will ultimately be their home form that will determine their top-flight future and will see any kind of result as a welcome bonus.

    Tottenham v Hull (20:00 GMT)

The road from White Hart Lane to the KCOM Stadium is a long but well-trodden one.

No fewer than four current Hull players came to the club directly from Spurs, with the most recent arrival, Ryan Mason, the Tigers' record signing at £13m.

He joins ex-Spurs trio Tom Huddlestone, Jake Livermore and Michael Dawson in the Hull squad, and all no doubt keen to make a point to their former employers tonight.

Mason, however, will have to be content with a place on the bench.

Speaking of which, here's the team news...
