Troy Deeney is down. The Watford players really have been in the wars today. Walter Mazzarri had to make two changes after the first 15 minutes. 

Deeney was one of those. But he too may now need to come off. Will he? No. He gives his Italian boss the big thumbs up. He's OK to carry on.

Better from Watford. This is the composure they've been needing to show for ages now. Pass, pass, pass... space created down the left for a cross and Odion Ighalo's header is low and difficult for Wayne Hennessey to collect on the bounce. Good hands.

Big Sam's gamble.

Sam Allardyce is up off the bench, a new dozen pieces of chewing gum being chomped into oblivion. He's missed this. 

As Palace clear the Watford corner it's clear this could swing either way. A big final 12 minutes or so.

Troy Deeney's penalty has injected life into this. A big 20 minutes or so to come. 

Jason Puncheon's teasing cross from a free-kick is headed over by Scott Dann. He should have done better.

The two penalties we have seen today have been diametrically opposed.

Awful. Just really bad. Another Watford long ball forward is headed down to Juan Zuniga on the edge of the box, it's a really good chance, but Zuniga leans back and cuts the ball into orbit. Talk about wayward. 

Watford are beginning to force a few more answers now, but Palace won't have seen too much to get worried about. The home side are yet to register a shot on target.

Jose Holebas' free-kick is hoisted across goal via Sebastian Prodl's head, but Troy Deeney can't make a meal of the scraps on offer at the back post.

A low Watford corner clumsily scatters across the Palace box and there's panic in the away side's defence for a moment, they're forced into conceding another corner... 

But this second delivery is plucked from danger by Wayne Hennessey. He's dealt with the high balls well.

Is this frustration? 

Etienne Capoue stabs into a shot from range that has no hope of troubling Wayne Hennessey in the Palace net. It's blocked and comes back to Sebastian Prodl, who does exactly the same. 

They started the half well, the Hornets. But something needs to change.

And probably the best chance for Watford this whole game so far as Odion Ighalo fires wide from a tight angle. Did he have more time to take that down and approach the Palace net? 

He was under pressure from Joel Ward, but Troy Deeney's challenge for a flick-on had opened up a decent chunk of space for the Nigeria forward.

You get the sense that that lone goal here is not going to be the only one of the match.

Jason Puncheon, after a moment of brilliance to trick his way into space down the left, lets himself down with a terrible outside-of-the-boot cross that misses the bundle of Palace heads assembled in the middle. Poor. 

Special mention to Wilfried Zaha's step-overs in the build-up to bamboozle Jose Holebas. 

Jose Holebas charges into Jason Puncheon, very late, very awkward. 

He apologies to the Palace man, but it's a yellow card.

Strength in numbers. Watford have enough bodies back to stifle a Crystal Palace counter, forcing Wilfried Zaha to stab wide to Andros Townsend... 

And Townsend's roller-coaster of a cut-inside-and-swipe shot zooms off into uncharted territory.
