  1. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:50 Greenwich Mean Time 31 December 2016

    Chelsea 4-2 Stoke

The Blues equal the top-flight record of 13 consecutive wins in a single season, emulating Preston North End and Sunderland in 1891-92, and Arsenal in 2001-02.

What a thriller it was at Stamford Bridge!

    Three minutes of it.

Eden Hazard almost finds Lee Grant far left corner, but he doesn't.

    Diego Costa

He's finally got the goal he deserves.

The Spain striker picks up Charlie Adam's wayward attempted defensive header in the area.

He outmuscles Bruno Martins Indi and fires an angled shot past Lee Grant.

Diego Costa has been truly brilliant today.

  4. SO CLOSE FOR STOKE!published at 83 mins

    Chelsea 3-2 Stoke

Glen Johnson, rampant down the right, plays a delivery into the area intended for Peter Crouch, but Cesar Azpilicueta gets a foot to it just before the tall striker can net his second.

Crouch would have put that away, surely.

    How will this one end?

Nathaniel Chalobah comes on for Blues' goal-hero (at the moment) Willian.

...who gives it away to Willian.

The double-goalscorer sprays it to the other wing where Eden Hazard is.

The Belgian then feeds Diego Costa, who with just the keeper to beat fires his shot over the bar.

The Spain forward deserves a goal today.

So disappointing for Stoke after Crouch's goal.

To react like that from Chelsea encapsulates everything that Antonio Conte's management is about. That never-say-die spirit.

What an excellent reaction from Willian, who I think was their best player last season.

Stoke have worked so, so hard. They have always kept chasing, and at no stage have they ever looked like giving up.

But it's extraordinary how Chelsea seem to be able to turn it on just when they need to turn it on. After the second Stoke equaliser, Chelsea suddenly opted to step it up by a couple of gears. Hazard took on a few players then Willian had it laid on a plate for him.

Nothing now would be a surprise in this game, even Stoke scoring again.

    Willian

    How many seconds?

Cesc Fabregas plays in Willian on the right of the area. The Brazilian wallops his angled shot past keeper Lee Grant - who I expect is probably sick of seeing the ball up close.

    The Blues back in front.

I've been here before this season. This finishes 5-4 doesn't it?

    Peter Crouch

Peter Crouch had not scored in the league since May 2015.

    He has now, obviously.

Chelsea's defence make a mess of things on the edge of the area. The newly-arrived Bojan plays in Mame Biram Diouf on the right whose square pass in finished off high into the net by the former England striker..

The ball laid back by Eden Hazard was genius, 10/10. It was such deftness of touch. That is an exceptional team goal.

    Willian

They don't do that panic thing do they?

Victor Moses twists and turns in the area before playing the ball to Eden Hazard whose one-touch lay-off finds Willian who arrows his shot past Lee Grant.

    A simple yet brilliant move.

Diego Costa is a such a beautiful player to watch in full flight.

His lovely reverse flick on the right finds Eden Hazard whose low square ball is a cut out again by Stoke.

    Chelsea 1-1 Stoke

    Chelsea seek a swift response.

A Blues free-kick comes off the head of Charlie Adam.

The resulting corner is cleared but eventually Willian picks up the ball and fires a low angled drive that narrowly drifts past Lee Grant's right-hand upright.

Moments later, Lee Grant dives low to cut out Diego Costa's square ball.

Bruno Martins Indi did brilliantly to open his ankle up - if I did that I'd end up in A&E because it'd snap!

The most likely way Stoke were going to score was going to be a good delivery, probably something from Charlie Adam.

I think Courtois could have come for that but he didn't, and now the visitors are level. And you know what? 1-1 if probably a fair reflection of the balance of this game.

    Bruno Martins Indi

    Yes, Bruno Martins Indi.

Charlie Adam floats the free-kick from the left into the area.

Peter Crouch is there to do what Peter Crouch does best and nod the ball down into the 'danger area', finding the Dutch defender, who fires in his first for the club.

    Cripes! And double cripes!
