Sergio Aguero has returned from suspension as Manchester City's most potent attacking weapon but he has barely had any service worthy of the name.

Kevin De Bruyne has also been marginalised by the pressure Liverpool are putting on City in possession. Plenty for Pep Guardiola to sort out at the interval.

    Liverpool 1-0 Man City

Still, while Liverpool lead by just the one goal Manchester City are still in this, especially as the home side seem capable of making an error at the back. That is the case as Kevin de Bruyne is onto a wayward pass and he charges towards goal. His shot deflected behind for a corner, which is then cleared.

Not a single shot on target for City yet. If they fail to register one before the break it would be the second time in as many away Premier League games they've failed to do so.

Manchester City are finally pressing Liverpool on the edge of the area. It looks promising... until Aleksandar Kolarov decides to have a shot. He sends the ball out for a throw in.

I can't see anybody catching Chelsea. But Liverpool are 1-0 up at the moment - if the Reds win are they the only side who can catch Antonio Conte's team?

Manchester City have not really clicked at all yet in this match, while Liverpool continue to threaten when they go forward.

Anyone want to check the Manchester City team bus? Their players have certainly not turned up yet. Poor from the visitors at the moment. Liverpool looking comfortable with 10 minutes to go until the break.

Simon Mignolet channels his inner Manuel Neuer as he takes on the roll of sweeper keeper, dashing off his line to coolly lift the ball over an onrushing Sergio Aguero before lobbing it to James Milner. Skills.

Liverpool's pressing and intent means six of their players are taking up an average position in the Manchester City half. City, pinned back, have all but Sergio Aguero back on the halfway line or behind.

What a ball from James Milner!

The Manchester City full-back finds a huge gap in the City defence with a whipped ball for Roberto Firmino but the Brazilian fluffs his first touch, allowing Claudio Bravo time to get off his line and get to the ball.

Liverpool have barely had an anxious moment since they took the lead and Manchester City are struggling to find any fluency in their game.

Raheem Sterling, with absolute predictability, is being jeered by Liverpool's fans every time he touches the ball but he is still demanding possession and looking to create openings.

Liverpool, however, are well on top at present.

    Liverpool 1-0 Man City

Manchester City are yet to put together a decent move. They are being pressed into errors by Liverpool. Big improvement needed if they are to trouble Simon Mignolet, who has had nothing to do at all.

Tony Cocozza in London: City are worse than last season. That is Guardiola's fault. He may be lauded in Spain and Germany but here in the Premier League he is rank average.

Harsh words Tony. Anyone agree, City fans?

Claudio Bravo is unconvincing as he punches away a loose ball after James Milner's free-kick into box. He was under pressure from Roberto Firmino, but it looks like he should have caught that.

When you look at it, City are trying to play Raheem Sterling in down the right but Liverpool are crowding that area of the pitch with James Milner, Adam Lallana and Jordan Henderson.

Huge cheers from the Liverpool fans, almost as loud as those for the goal, as Raheem Sterling launches an effort well out of play. Trying too hard to make an impression?

Georginio Wijnaldum steals the ball from Yaya Toure and immediately finds Adam Lallana. He in turn feeds the overlapping James Milner, who can't get his cross in.
