Aberdeen play Celtic in the League Cup final on 27 November and Dons boss Derek McInnes is adamant tickets should be shared evenly between the clubs at Hampden.

"We're already having to go down to Glasgow to play Celtic in their city," he said this afternoon.

"Without doubt, parity must be seen to take place - a split down the middle; 50-50. We'll fill that, absolutely no problem. 

"We had 40,000 at the last final [their 2014 League Cup triumph]. Common sense should prevail. We could sell our allocation twice over. 

"Anything other than 50-50 would be a disgrace in my view."

Livingston have been ordered to replay their Irn Bru Cup fourth round tie with Belfast side Crusaders, and fined £4,000, for fielding an ineligible player.

Defender Alan Lithgow, who was under suspension from the SFA, played for the full game as the Scottish League One side won 2-1.

The verdict was reached after the club pleaded guilty at today's disciplinary hearing, with the match to be played again on 1 November at the Seaview Stadium.

Welsh team The New Saints will visit the winners in the quarter-finals.

Mark Warburton has acknowledged there is a gap in quality between his Rangers side and Celtic - and he believes it would be foolish to try to spend large amounts of money in an attempt to close it too quickly.

Former Rangers manager Graeme Souness claimed earlier that the Englishman has not had the backing he needs from chairman Dave King and his board and reckons it could take his old side five years to close the gap on their rivals. 

"There is a financial gap that exists at this moment," admitted manager Warburton, whose side were beaten 1-0 by Celtic in Sunday's League Cup semi-final. "That's clear for everybody to see. 

"They have a squad packed with international players, they are in the Champions League this year and are getting all the benefit of that in terms of playing experience and financial income. 

"We recognise and respect that. We then have to sit down and decide how do we close it? How do we improve our squad? Can we invest astutely and wisely? 

"The worst thing Rangers could do is spend recklessly to try to close that gap too quickly."

Rangers have invited an 11-year-old fan who suffered a bottle attack before Sunday's League Cup semi-final to the Glasgow club as a mascot.

Kraig Mackay suffered a large cut to his head after being hit by the bottle while walking in Aitkenhead Road, Glasgow, at about 14:00 on Sunday in what police described as an "abhorrent" incident.  

Pictures on social media showed him with a large gash and a bandage on his head.  

Manager Mark Warburton said the boy would join Rangers as the mascot for Wednesday's match against St Johnstone and watch the game from the directors' box.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers says the statistics prove his side played even better against Rangers in Sunday's Scottish League Cup semi-final than when they beat them 5-1 in the league last month. 

The Scottish champions progressed to November's final with a 1-0 win over their rivals at Hampden.

But Rangers manager Mark Warburton suggested afterwards that the gap between the sides had narrowed. 

"Every number was better yesterday," countered Rodgers. "We had more possession of the ball; we had more corners; we had more efforts on goal.

"That would tell you that it was a similar, if not better, performance, without the goals."

Celtic defender Erik Sviatchenko says Rangers are not narrowing the gap on their Glasgow rivals. 

Mark Warburton says his Rangers side are gaining ground on Celtic despite their 1-0 defeat in Sunday's League Cup semi-final.

But Sviatchenko insists the Scottish Cchampions are still a much better team.

Asked if Rangers are closing the gap, the Denmark defender said "No.

"I think we showed the same level of performance as we did the last time, even though the scoresheet was only one goal.

"I think we are still the much better team."

Scottish Football Association chief executive Stewart Regan believes it is disrespectful to discuss head coach Gordon Strachan's position only three games into a qualifying campaign. 

Following the recent draw at home against Lithuania and the 3-0 defeat by Slovakia, Strachan was considering his future but quickly decided he wanted to continue in the role. 

A defeat in their next game against England would leave Scotland struggling to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia but Regan says all the focus is on trying to win that match and revive the campaign.

"We had a discussion, not about whether he'd continue - Gordon's under contract - about the performance of the first three games," Regan told BBC Scotland. 

"Nobody was more disappointed than Gordon. He felt we should have been in a better position after three games. 

"It's all about results. Results will determine what happens as far as Scotland is concerned. 

"There are 21 points still to play for. If we win at Wembley, we're right back in the mix. 

"I think it's disrespectful to be talking about a manager's contract this early in the campaign."

My colleague wonders about the whereabouts of Rangers' chairman after Sunday's League Cup semi-final defeat...

David McCoy, external: "Celtic should have scored more, but Rangers upped a level or two on their defending, starting with the keeper. It's going to take three to four years for Rangers to match Celtic for quality in every position unless they somehow get millions from somewhere to invest in the team. I was impressed with Rangers yesterday. They played well with the limited quality available."

John Oneil, external: "Remember the dark days when Goram and Co were always the winners despite Celtic playing some fantastic football. Oh my, how the tables have turned."

Gordon Christie, external: "Football is becoming far too soft. You can't tackle and now you can't head the ball. Geez a break."

Hamilton captain Michael Devlin returns to the Accies squad after six weeks absence with a knee injury and could feature at home to Aberdeen on Tuesday.

But fellow central defender Dan Seaborne will have to wait a week to 10 days before making his return after injuring his knee in training. 

Left-back Darren Lyon has returned to training but is still not ready to make his comeback after groin surgery. 

Goalkeeper Remi Matthews and defenders Jesus Garcia Tena and Craig Watson remain sidelined long-term.

Do they back up the suggestion that the gap is narrowing? It doesn't make good reading for Rangers or their fans.

Martin Canning has challenged his strikers at Hamilton Academical to relish the responsibility of reaching a double-figure goal tally.

Attacking midfielder Ali Crawford is Accies' top scorer with six so far this season.

"Every team is striving to find that guy that gets you 15 or 20 goals," manager Canning told BBC Scotland as he looked ahead to Tuesday's Premiership game against Aberdeen.

"I believe Eamonn Brophy's capable of it; Rakish Bingham's the same and so is Alex D'Acol."

D'Acol has scored three this season, Brophy netted his first of the campaign in their last game against Partick Thistle, while Bingham has yet to get off the mark in five appearances.
