Even when they were bottom of the table with just a point from their first five matches, Mark Hughes was always confident that Stoke would soon recover,, external with a rise up the table inevitable rather than unexpected.

Now unbeaten in their last six matches, a place in the top 10 could be theirs by the end of the weekend.

By contrast, Bournemouth will arrive winless in three and with just two points from their five away matches this campaign. It is by no means a crisis for a club who continue to defy football's established order each week.

That said, with games against Arsenal and Liverpool to follow, Eddie Howe will be aware of the significance of arresting this minor slide as quickly as possible.

Sadio Mane's Senegal were victims of one of the most diabolical penalty decisions ever in South Africa last week.

What a shame if that damaging defeat and the 12,000-mile trip has a draining effect on a player so crucial to Liverpool's fabulous, fluent forward play.

Saints fans would love it of course. He's part of the recent £95m talent drain from St Mary's to Anfield. That history now always makes this game spikey.

Form suggests a Liverpool win. I'm not sure. Talismanic Philippe Coutinho had two jet-lagging games in South America too. The visitors could pay the penalty of World Cup weariness.

    Everton v Swansea (15:00 GMT)

    Alan Green
Match of the Day commentator at Goodison Park

Ronald Koeman ruffled a few feathers during the international break, firstly by saying Romelu Lukaku may have to leave Goodison Park and then, to more chagrin amongst Everton supporters, that he thought highly of Liverpool's title challenge.

Everton began the season so well and this weekend's match is an obvious opportunity to put their recent troubles behind them.

Swansea's run is simply awful. They took all three points at Burnley on the opening day and haven't managed a league win since.

American Bob Bradley is in desperate need to assuage his many doubters but I can't see it happening here.

Crystal Palace v Man City (15:00 GMT)

Match of the Day commentator at Selhurst Park

After a whirlwind start, Manchester City's league form has been fitful and they now appear locked in a five-way battle for title supremacy.

Pep Guardiola would ideally like to rest some players ahead of Wednesday's Champions League game away to Borussia Monchengladbach, but dare he do it when they really need three points at Selhurst Park?

Palace have lost their last four games, have a dismal record against City and sit one point above the relegation zone. Their position is especially alarming given how badly their form tailed off in the second half of last season., external

Their three league wins this term all came on the bounce and it will be a concern for Alan Pardew that their results appears so streaky.

  10. Tributes to the victims of the Croydon tram crashpublished at 14:39

Crystal Palace v Man City (15:00 GMT)

Tributes are being paid at Selhurst Park today to the victims of the Croydon tram crash on 9 November.

Seven people died when a tram derailed in south London, including two Crystal Palace fans, Dane Chinnery and Philip Seary.

"The terrible events in Croydon had a massive impact on us," said Palace boss Alan Pardew.

Some of the victims' families are at today's game and the club has contributed to a fund to help them.

Palace players will wear black armbands and there will be a minute's silence before kick-off.

The family of Chinnery, 19, have also asked Palace fans at the game to join them in a minute's applause.

    Everton v Swansea (15:00 GMT)

Full-back Leighton Baines starts for Everton for the first time since September after recovering from a hamstring injury.

Ronald Koeman has made four changes to the side that were demolished 5-0 by Chelsea.

Idrissa Gueye returns from serving a one-match ban to beef up the midfield.

Aaron Lennon and James McCarthy also come in, with Bryan Oviedo, Tom Cleverley and Ramiro Funes Mori dropping out. Gareth Barry misses the game due to suspension.

Bob Bradley has made eight changes to the side that lost 3-1 to Manchester United, as he searches for his first Premier League win.

It's easier to say who has survived the cull and that is goalkeeper Łukasz Fabiański, winger Wayne Routledge and Gylfi Sigurdsson, who is his side's main attacking focus today.

In fact Swansea are without a recognised striker in their starting XI, with record signing Borja Baston dropping to the bench and Fernando Llorente dropped completely.

Hull make three changes from the starting line-up against Southampton. In from the start come Robert Snodgrass and Dieumerci Mbokani, replacing injured duo Abel Hernandez and Will Keane. Seventeen-year-old left-back Josh Tymon is handed a Premier League debut in place of Harry Maguire as head coach Mike Phelan changes to a flat back four.

Crytal Palace make two changes from the team that lost 3-2 at Burnley before the international break.

Goalkeeper Steve Mandanda is out with a knee injury and is replaced by Wayne Hennessey, while James Tomkins comes in for Damien Delaney in the Eagles defence.

The big news in the Manchester City line-up is the return of Yaya Toure, for his first Premier League appearance of the season and only his second game in any competition during the current campaign - he started a Champions League qualifying play-off against Steaua Bucharest in August.

Toure had been told by City boss Pep Guardiola on 20 September that he would not be considered for selection until his agent Dimitri Seluk apologised for criticising the decision to leave him out.

Vincent Kompany and Bacary Sagna also return to the City starting XI as Guardiola makes six changes. Nicolas Otamendi, Raheem Sterling and Nolito are the other players recalled.
