Encouragement for QPR, as Pawel Wszolek gathers the ball just inside the area and finds Yeni Ngbakoto.

The visitors can't fashion another chance from the set piece.

QPR director of football Les Ferdinand will be thinking heavily about the club's priorities in the January transfer window.

Rangers are in need of reinforcements to move away from the relegation zone, and I'm sure Ian Holloway is keen for some spending money.

Former R's boss Chris Ramsey is alongside Ferdinand in the stands at the Amex.

    Brighton 1-0 QPR

Yeni Ngbakoto does have a dig, but powers it into the wall.

It goes out for a throw-in.

Rangers continue to try and threaten the Brighton defence since falling behind.

QPR win a free-kick some 35 yards out after Dale Stephens slides in from behind and commits a foul. Someone might fancy a hit here.

    Brighton 1-0 QPR

QPR look to come back into it but Idrissa Sylla can't make the most of a ball into the box.

    Sam Baldock

Brighton are ahead, and it's an absolute cracker from Sam Baldock.

Glenn Murray wins the ball, Dale Stephens feeds Baldock and the striker does the rest.

He drives at the QPR defence and unleashes a left-footed rocket from just outside the area into the top right-hand corner.

Rangers keeper Alex Smithies is inches away from getting his fingertips to it.

As it stands, Albion are top of the Championship.

  8. Postpublished at 10 mins

    Brighton 0-0 QPR

Brighton threaten again, as Oliver Norwood picks out right-back Bruno with a cross-field ball into the box.

The Spaniard can't find anyone else with his ball in though and it goes straight into the arms of Alex Smithies.

  9. Postpublished at 7 mins

    Brighton 0-0 QPR

Albion forward Sam Baldock has the first real effort at goal.

He latches on to a throw-in from the left, rolls his man and sends a shot into the side-netting.

    A warning for QPR there.

  10. Postpublished at 5 mins

    Brighton 0-0 QPR

QPR have their first decent spell on the ball, winning a free kick just inside the Albion half.

However, their move breaks down soon after they restart play.

Idrissa Sylla has had a couple of decent touches up front to hold up the play.

  11. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Brighton 0-0 QPR

The corner goes deep to the back post, and Lewis Dunk gets the faintest of touches on it and it goes out for a goal kick.

No threat there to the QPR goal.

  12. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Brighton 0-0 QPR

Brighton have had the better of the early stages, dominating possession.

Sam Baldock latches onto a throw into the box but has a shot blocked.

Then a mix-up between Rangers keeper Alex Smithies and defender Nedum Onuoha gifts Albion a corner.

  14. KICK-OFFpublished at 12:32 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December 2016

    Brighton 0-0 QPR

We are under way on the south coast as Albion get us started.

Brighton know a win will take them top, while QPR are looking to end a run of five straight defeats and move away from the bottom three.

The hosts are in their traditional blue and white stripes while Rangers are in their maroon away kit, with a touch if yellow.

The man in the middle is Keith Stroud.

  17. 'A big week for Brighton'published at 12:22 Greenwich Mean Time 27 December 2016

    Brighton v QPR (12:30 GMT)

Former Brighton midfielder Warren Aspinall on BBC Sussex:

"It's a big week for the Albion. We need six points and to go top of the table. Teams need to chase us.

"It's going to be a tough game today and it's going to be difficult to break QPR down."

QPR have lost their last five league games but Brighton boss Chris Hughton says those results have not reflected their performances.

"QPR have certainly found it difficult to get the goals you need," he told BBC Sussex.

"I saw them play Aston Villa and I thought they played well. Since Ian Holloway has gone in there, their performance levels have been good but they can't find that way of winning.

"In Ian, they have someone who knows the club very well and he will be trying his best to turn it around."

QPR and Wigan (also 20) have scored the fewest Championship goals this season.

Since winning their first match under Ian Holloway, Rangers have lost five successive games and have scored just one goal.

The west London side are just three points above the relegation zone heading into this match.

It's a formidable task ahead for QPR as they try to derail the runaway train that is "Brighton at home".

The Seagulls have taken 26 points from a possible 33 available at home, while Brentford are the only side to win at the Amex Stadium in the Championship this season.

That kind of form - and Brighton's league placing - mean it's a sell-out on the south coast this lunchtime.
