    Birmingham 1-0 Brighton

Brighton have definitely been told to get the ball out to Solly March.

Again the left winger crosses into the area and Birmingham this time scramble the ball away. March is providing a great outlet for the away midfield already.

    Birmingham 1-0 Brighton

Brighton sub Solly March gets involved for the first time in the game and stands up Jonathan Spector, but his driven cross is headed away by the Birmingham defence.

At the moment, Blues are standing strong, but Brighton do have Glenn Murray in their ranks.

George Evans' winner for Reading in injury time condemned Blackburn to a third consecutive 3-2 league defeat.

Former England, Manchester United and Sunderland centre-back Wes Brown scored Rovers' second equaliser, but it was not enough to help salvage a point.

Blackburn Rovers boss Owen Coyle:"I felt over the piece we were the better side.

"We knew they would have possession but that being said, we have created eight, I would suggest, gilt-edge chances. I'm talking about ones that should be in the back of the net.

"We put so much into the game, we should be leaving with points, there's no doubt about it."

Almost a carbon copy ball into the box towards Lukas Jutkiewicz that was flung in for the goal, but from the left this time from Jonathan Grounds, but the forward can't direct it back towards goal.

  5. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 63 mins

    Birmingham 1-0 Brighton

Jiri Skalak, who has barely been involved for Brighton today, and Steve Sidwell are taken off by Brighton boss Chris Hughton, in place of Solly March and Oliver Norwood.

Hughton needs something to change against his former side.

  6. Postpublished at 60 mins

    Birmingham 1-0 Brighton

A superb interchange on the touchline between Greg Stewart and Maikel Kieftenbeld somehow allows the former to break into the box, but Stewart's cut back is cut out.

That move deserved a better final ball.

  7. 'We have belief and fight'published at 18:49 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2016

    FT: Leeds United 1-0 Brentford

    Leeds' Kyle BartleyImage source, rex

Kyle Bartley's late header gave Championship play-off hopefuls Leeds a win against Brentford. The win means Garry Monk's men have won four of their last five league games.

Leeds United boss Monk:"It was obvious we weren't at our best today. I thought we looked tired, especially in the first 60 minutes. The one thing this team has - we try instil it in them - is that belief to fight every second they're on the pitch.

"It's great to see that mentality, fight and spirit from the players to keep going right to the end. It's something we've been doing a lot and building a lot on, and that's what you need to do."

Since the goal Brighton have had pretty much all of the possession, but under Gary Rowett Birmingham prided themselves on their defence, who stand strong to deny a strike by Glenn Murray.

  9. Postpublished at 56 mins

    Birmingham 1-0 Brighton

Chris Hughton is deep in thought with his assistant Paul Trollope about how to change this up.

With Reading winning earlier today, the gap to third place could be cut to five points.

The Seagulls do have a free-kick in a decent position to put a cross in, but Blues clear the danger.

    Birmingham 1-0 Brighton

Watching that goal again I'm impressed by the power Jutkiewicz managed to get on his header back across the goal.

Goanfranco Zola is on the touchline applauding his team, but doesn't look too animated at the moment.

    Lukas Jutkiewicz

The first goal of the Gianfranco Zola era and it goes to Lukas Jutkiewicz.

Greg Stewart jinks into the Brighton box and lays it back to David Davis, who floats in a cross to Jutkiewicz at the back post and he rises like a salmon to head the ball back across goal past David Stockdale.

The volume has just been turned up at St Andrew's.

  12. 'It seems a bit harsh'published at 18:40 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2016

FT: Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 Rotherham United

    Tom AdeyemiImage source, Rex Features

Rotherham had a goal ruled out and concede a late penalty as Sheffield United ended a 35-year winless home league run against the Millers.

Tom Adeyemi was the one to put the ball in the back of the net before the break, but his effort was waved away by referee Tim Robinson for a foul.

Rotherham caretaker manager Paul Warne: "It was more a case of the player winning the penalty. Would I be happy if my striker did that in the 93rd minute to win the game? Yes I would.

"For the goal, I've watched it back numerous times and I cannot see where the foul is, I can't even see where it might have been. I will go and speak to the referee and he will tell me something I didn't see.

"This game is a big deal for us and it is a big deal for my players. If we have scored a good goal going into the break 1-0 it could have been a different story. I don't understand what he has seen. It seems harsh on us.

  13. Postpublished at 48 mins

    Birmingham 0-0 Brighton

Lukas Jutkiewicz has the first effort on goal of the half, but his shot from outside the box is weak and gobbled up by David Stockdale like a Christmas turkey.

  14. Postpublished at 47 mins

    Birmingham 0-0 Brighton

Gianfranco Zola is looking well wrapped up in a hat and scarf and has so far seen the second half begin the way the first ended, with very little quality.

  15. Postpublished at 18:35 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2016

    Birmingham 0-0 Brighton

Brighton were out very early, but Birmingham left them waiting. Maybe Gianfranco had a lot to say.

Brighton get us back under way at St Andrew's. Let's hope for a better half!

  16. 'Making music and tearing down walls'published at 18:30 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2016

FT: Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 Rotherham United

    CArlos CarvalhalImage source, Rex Features

Steven Fletcher's injury-time penalty gave Sheffield Wednesday victory over Championship strugglers Rotherham, moving the Owls up to sixth in the table.

Victory was Sheffield Wednesday's first home league win against Rotherham since 1981. It was the Millers' first league defeat by the Owls in 11 games.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal told BBC Radio Sheffield: "We deserved the win. We had to break down some walls today. The first wall to break was that Sheffield Wednesday have not won against Rotherham for a long time. This sort of wall can get in the head of the players and the fans a little.

"The second wall we had to break was the wall that Rotherham create with their defensive organisation. After 20 minutes our tempo decreased and we played with music that Rotherham put on the pitch - the ball went out, we wait, the goalkeeper has the ball and we wait again. We kept the ball and go slowly to play, so it was our fault as well.

"At the break I told the player that we must play our music, play at our tempo so we decided to change. We took more risks, but when you take risks and want something, then you can achieve."

    If you say so, Carlos...

Alright, so the last 45 minutes may not have been the most thrilling, but there was still plenty of excitement in the day's 15:00 GMT kick-offs in the Championship.

There four stoppage-time winners, a victory for the league leaders a 4-3 belter in South Wales.

  20. HALF-TIMEpublished at 18:18 Greenwich Mean Time 17 December 2016

    Birmingham 0-0 Brighton

The scoreline is the one this game deserves.

New Birmingham boss Gianfranco Zola will have to think about how to tackle the second half after a fairly drab first.
