  2. Killie's Clark seeks continuitypublished at 17:57 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2016

Lee Clark will make January signings but will not be performing the same kind of surgery on his Kilmarnock squad as he made in the summer when the transfer window opens next month.

The English manager signed 17 new players in the summer, but they struggled to gel as they won only once in their opening eight Premiership fixtures and exiting the League Cup at the group stage.

"We've made progress with one or two of the loan boys," said Clark. "We're still waiting for final confirmation.

"We're speaking to other clubs as well with regards potential signings.

"But I'm also aware though that, if you change things too much and move all your loan players out and bring fresh ones in, that could upset the balance.

"Right now, we're starting to see some of those lads produce some good performances.

"But that can't be the case in January. We can't afford to lose a Scottish Cup tie or league games while those players are bedding in, so stability could be the key."

  4. Clark not expecting Hearts backlashpublished at 17:30 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2016

Kris Boyd's controversial comments on Ian Cathro will not mean Hearts will be more fired up when they square up to Kilmarnock on 27 December, according to the Ayrshire side's manager, Lee Clark.

In his weekly column in The Sun, striker Boyd suggested the 30-year-old would be "out of his depth" at Tynecastle in his first job as a team boss.

"I've not seen the article, but Kris is an experienced man who is doing a lot of work in the media," said Clark of the 33-year-old former Scotland striker.

"If he has an opinion on something, he is well within his rights to put that opinion forward.

"If that means he takes a bit of stick at Tynecastle then I'm sure he will be big enough to take that on the chin.

"I don't think he's tried to be derogatory about anyone. He's given an honest opinion about what he believes.

"I don't see it changing the mentality of the Hearts management team and their players when we go to Tynecastle.

"They are a team who look to win every game in any case and be aggressive each time."

  5. SFA to establish football abuse 'review'published at 17:01 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2016

The Scottish Football Association is to set up an "independent review" of child abuse allegations in football.

Several former players have come forward to say they were abused by people in positions of authority.

The SFA said it wanted to reassure people that football was a "safe and enjoyable environment for children".

It said the review would focus on "processes and procedures" in place both currently and historically in Scottish football.

  7. Wilson thankful to Dalziel and Hartleypublished at 16:36 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2016

Mark Wilson has thanked Airdrieonians director of football Gordon Dalziel and Dundee manager Paul Hartley for helping him pick up the Scottish League One manager of the month award for November only five months into his first senior coaching job.

The former Celtic and Dundee United defender's side won all three league games during the month.

“Paul Hartley gave me the chance to coach at Alloa, when I was still playing at Dundee United, and I appreciate that hugely," Wilson told sponsor Ladbrokes.

“It gave me the chance to go in and take charge of 20/30 boys on my own and get my own ideas across and he was very free in how he let me do things.

"He let me take charge of the reserve team and I was really pleased with that.

“It gave me the kind of platform and appetite to realise I wanted to actually go into management."

Wilson and Dalziel worked together as radio pundits before teaming up at Excelsior Stadium.

"When I went into the job, people must have thought Gordon and I were best pals because we’re on the radio together on Thursday night, but the fact was we only ever spent two hours per week together - we never socialised or anything," said Wilson.

“But Gordon’s obviously seen something in me and there’s a lot riding on his decision to bring me in - and I’m pleased he did. We have similar ideas."

As so often happens, the managerial award coincided with a defeat for the winning manager - a painful 5-0 home hammering by Stenhousemuir that allowed leaders Livingston to open up a four-point lead.

However, Wilson added: “We’re hugely ambitious. I would love to say we’re aiming for the league title - and there’ll be ups and downs - but we’ll not be too far away come the end of the season.”

  10. Thoroughly modern Fergusonpublished at 16:09 Greenwich Mean Time 13 December 2016

Airdrieonians manager Mark Wilson has described Rohan Ferguson as a modern-day goalkeeper who is capable of reaching the top level.

The 19-year-old helped the Diamonds win all three of their Scottish League One wins during November, leading to himself and Wilson winning monthly awards from sponsor Ladbrokes.

“He’s one of these new keepers that has this new way of playing," said former full-back Wilson of a teenager who is already being linked with Premiership clubs after becoming Aidrieonians' number one this season.

"He’s very good with his feet and he’s probably a better passer of a ball than I ever was!

“When I played, goalkeepers were all about catching crosses and shot stopping - and Rohan’s very good at that - but his main strength is you can pass him the ball and he can actually take two or three touches and find a pass.

“I think that’s valuable for a young goalkeeper in this day and age and I’ve no doubt this boy’s going to go far in the game.”
