One final piece to point you towards; Jonathan Jurejko's report on Juve's 3-0 win - which set a new Serie A record of 26 consecutive home wins.

In Italy, Juve's win keeps them a decent distance ahead of Roma, who had attempted to apply pressure earlier in the day with a 1-0 win at Genoa. Spare a thought for Armando Izzo, the Genoa defender - his own goal decided the game, and it was his second of the season. He's in danger of becoming the Richard Dunne of Italy.

Elsewhere, Joe Hart kept a clean sheet for Torino in a 0-0 draw at Sassuolo that was about as exciting as the scoreline suggests. Two Ivan Perisic goals gave Inter Milan a fourth successive Serie A win as they beat Udinese; there were late winners for Lazio and AC Milan, and a thumping victory for Atalanta at Chievo. In today's other La Liga games, Leganes remain four points above the relegation zone after losing 2-0 at Real Betis, while Celta Vigo moved back into the top half of the table by beating Malaga 3-1. Athletic Bilbao drew 0-0 at home to Alaves.

Kyle: Brilliant goal from Messi. Shame the referee didn't do his job properly as that goal deserved to be the winner.

Barcelona had two very good penalty shouts rejected as Villarreal captain Bruno handled the ball inside his penalty area twice without detection. 

So a good night for Real Madrid, and a good night too for Juventus, who are very well placed to retain their Serie A title after tonight's straightforward win.

Indeed it does. Villarreal's first win over Barcelona since 2008 looked as if it would happen tonight. Lionel Messi, though, had other ideas.

Jaume may feel that red card was worth it, as it checked Barcelona's momentum just enough to ensure that they could not nick a late winner. And, to be honest, had the game gone on for another five minutes, they may well have done.

Deep into four minutes of stoppage time. Is there a late twist here? There's a sending off for Villarreal full-back Jaume Costa, booked earlier for pulling down Luis Suarez, is booked again for fouling Lionel Messi.

Into the final five. If Bologna turn this around now then I'll buy a packet of fruit-based chews for every single one of you.

Barcelona have done everything but score in this second half. Villarreal's defensive discipline - aided with a degree of fortune - has kept them ahead. But now Bruno hauls down Lionel Messi just outside the penalty area, and this is a chance...

It's party time for Juventus and, in particularly, Tomas Rincon. The new signing, who becomes the first Venezuelan to represent the Old Lady, comes on to make his debut in place of Sami Khedira.

The former Genoa midfielder is grinning from ear-to-ear. He looks happier than a postman who has just found out he has won the Euromillions. 

A couple of scares for Villarreal. First, Arda Turan heads a clear chance wide from eight yards. Then keeper Sergio Asenjo and defender Victor Ruiz are caught going for the same ball, it runs loose to Neymar, whose goalbound shot is blocked.

Mateo Musacchio falls awkwardly on to his arm amid all of that, and the Villarreal defender cannot continue. Alvaro Gonzalez is on at centre-back in his place. Four minutes plus stoppage time for the home side to hold on.
