Arsenal respons with a flurry of set pieces, yielding little. Diego Costa takes aim at the away side's near post... side netting. Frenetic stuff. How will Gabriel slot in at right back. It's not like he has much to worry about, only Eden Hazard and Marcos Alonso.

So then, how do you stop this Chelsea train from just flying down the tracks?

Hector Bellerin will need to go off, he looks like he's done 12 rounds with Mike Tyson in his prime.

The lights are on but no one's home. He took a hell of a whack from Marcos Alonso. The goalscorer's elbow seemed to meet Bellerin's cheekbone.

    Gabriel will come on.

Fantastic cross into the box, pinpoint perfect for Diego Costa.

His header is straight off the cross bar but I tell you what, Alonso bullies Bellerin out of the way, it's a fantastic header. He's more determined, it's real top quality play from Alonso.

But as a defender, Bellerin has to be stronger in his own six-yard box.

  6. GOAL - Chelsea 1-0 Arsenalpublished at 13 mins

    Marcos Alonso

Stamford Bridge erupts, Chelsea capitalise on a brief spell of momentum to snatch the lead. It's a goal which mixes quality with guts.

Pedro has time to cross on the right flank and his whipped ball is met flush by the head of Diego Costa. His effort thumps the bar and loops into the air with Petr Cech beaten. All that remains is a 50-50, Marcos Alonso versus Hector Bellerin... one winner.

Alonso wants it more, he smashes Bellerin in the air and heads the ball low into the net.

A double whammy as the Arsenal full-back needs treatment.

Antonio Conte has suffered one home league defeat at Stamford Bridge - against Liverpool in September.

Prior to that, his last home league defeat as a club manager was at Juventus on 6 January 2013 -  a 2-1 loss to Sampdoria.

He's a man who likes home comforts. He's so comfortable in home surroundings, he should turn up in slippers.

  9. Conte close to the actionpublished at 12:41 Greenwich Mean Time 4 February 2017

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is watching from a seat high in the stand as he serves the third game in a four-match touchline ban - but his Chelsea counterpart Antonio Conte couldn't be any closer to the action,

And he is in typically animated form, with the early body language suggesting he is not entirely satisfied with Chelsea's start.

We may have our first booking here. Francis Coquelin walking the plank for a poor sliding tackle on Victor Moses... he gets away with it. In the build-up Laurent Koscielny went through the back of Diego Costa. Anyone would think he's trying to wind such a stable character up.

Chelsea free-kick...whipped in but Gary Cahill's downward header bounces harmlessly over.

Is it just me, or should Alexis Sanchez never be allowed to pull a ball down when it's booted out from the keeper. He's under pressure from David Luiz but wins the battle, gets the ball under his spell and wins a throw.

He's smaller than the annoying dog in my street, yet he's beating defenders to aerial balls. Not on. Just not on.

Alexis Sanchez escapes a tackle or two in midfield, he's bull-like on times. Neat clip through the defence and Theo Walcott is away... offside though. A few yards too early.

It's a good start from Arsenal, but already Sanchez is getting a bit frustrated.

It's taken them 30 seconds to take a throw-in there - you can't give Chelsea that opportunity to get players back behind the ball, because once they're set, they're very difficult to break down.

Patient stuff from the Arsenal, Nacho Monreal spreading play at the back, they progress upfield with a series of passes and eventually Theo Walcott gets that impatient feeling and makes a diagonal run in behind. He's seen but Thibaut Courtois is going to pluck that from the air all day long.

A rapid response from the blunder by the home side as they win two corners in the space of a minute. Good build-up play for both. In comes the second delivery and a huge cry of "OUT" is followed by a clearance in the area. Both sets of fans volley songs back and forth.

    Good atmosphere, good start.

  18. CLOSE!published at 2 mins

Chelsea play with fire at the back early on, Thibaut Courtois trying to pass the ball out from his area and Alex Iwobi is all over it like a flash. He cuts inside on his right peg and easily finds shooting space...low drive...a fraction wide. Wobbly Chelsea.

With Oxlade-Chamberlain and Coquelin in midfield that is the big one for me.

Is Coquelin going to become isolated with Oxlade-Chamberlin going forward?
