John O'Shea is down now - did that first half completely take it out of Sunderland?

Fair enough if it did, it should prove to be enough.

Palace have looked a bit better since the break. Then again, they could not play any worse.

  3. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 51 mins

    Crystal Palace 0-4 Sunderland

Oh no, Jack Rodwell is limping off on what looks likely to finally be his first win after starting for Sunderland.

New signing Darron Gibson is on to replace him.

A fan remonstrated with Damien Delaney at the end of the first half - and got onto the pitch to do so.

It's pretty indicative of the mood around Selhurst Park when the fans start berating the players face to face.

  5. CLOSE!published at 49 mins

    Crystal Palace 0-4 Sunderland

James McArthur bends a left-footed shot round the post. Not a million miles away but Vito Mannone had it covered.

Ironic cheers from the Palace fans.

The Sunderland fan in the office says this one isn't over yet - oh ye of little faith. Although showing faith in Sunderland probably has been tough in recent times in fairness.

They've been excellent. Palace have been abysmal.

The game certainly is over for all the fans who won't be retaking their seats for the second half.

Daniel Woodley: How is this even happening?!?! Sensational 45 minutes for Sunderland AFC who are taking Crystal Palace to the cleaners!!

Craig Smith: Am I seeing things, or are Sunderland winning 4-0 at half time? Incredible, we need this win so bad to give us hope.

Stephen James: Sunderland 4-0 up?! Can I go back to my own universe now please? I'm scared!

Scenes. Sunderland have just eviscerated Palace with three goals in six minutes to end the first half.

That's six in six for Jermain Defoe against Palace too.

Big Sam's side are a mess. They completely switched off and Sunderland punished them ruthlessly.

    Jermain Defoe

    It's all over before half-time.

And it's Jermain Defoe again - this time bending another great run in behind the Palace defence, picking the ball up with his back to goal and easily rolling James Tomkins to fire inside the near post.

Palace fans sing: "You're not fit to wear the shirt."

Big Sam may be saying much the same thing in the dressing room soon enough.

    Jermain Defoe

OH MY DAYS. It could be thank you and goodnight at Selhurst Park before half-time.

Adnan Januzaj bursts down the left, waits, then weights his pass to Defoe, who takes one touch and buries it in the far corner.

Absolutely no chance for the goalkeeper, it's in off the post.

Just seconds before that goal we saw Palace chairman Steve Parish in the stands. He did not look happy.

    Didier Ndong

    OOOH THAT IS LOVELY.

Didier Ndong robs Joe Ledley in midfield, strides forward into space and curls in a belting left-footed strike from 25 yards.

That's his first goal for Sunderland and what a time to get it.

Big Sam looks like he's getting ready to scream at half-time. His players have buckled.

    Crystal Palace 0-1 Sunderland

Bright stuff from Sunderland as Bryan Oviedo whips in a great cross but no one is there to convert.

Wait, now Palace have it and are sprinting up the other end but Benteke is wasteful and Sunderland can clear.
