A bit of life finally injected into this game after a very passive opening 25 minutes.

First Fulham looked in when Ryan Fredericks found space down the right but his ball back across goal was blocked by Paul McShane.

Tom Cairney then had an effort from 25 yards out blocked by John Swift before he then tested Fulham goalkeeper David Button with a driving shot to his right.

It's taken some time, but looks like they've woken up out there.

Reading do test David Button in the Fulham goal, but he proves up to the task this time.

Roy Beerens is the creator, feeding a pass through to John Swift, whose shot is low and on target.

It's not good enough to beat Button though, as he springs low to make the stop.

It's still goalless, but there's no shortage of entertainment here.

Brighton's Solly March is the latest to test the keeper, but Allan McGregor gets down to parry away his shot from the edge of the area.

Surely this can't stay 0-0 too much longer?

    Reading 0-0 Fulham

Reading's Paul McShane rises to meet a corner, but his header is deflected behind and doesn't challenge Fulham keeper David Button.

The hosts have yet to get a shot on target in the opening 25 minutes.

And now a chance at the other end for Cardiff.

Joe Ralls whips a free-kick into the box, and David Stockdale has to leap like a salmon to tip Sean Morrison's looping header over the bar.

Moments later, Junior Hoilett chests the ball down and smashes it towards goal, but Stockdale is there to make another save. The visitors haven't had much of the ball, but they're a real threat when they do get hold of it.

No sooner had Mick Gooding uttered those words than Fulham midfielder Kevin McDonald volleys the first opening of the game wide from the edge of the box.

There is nothing in it. They have matched each other up and both sides are finding it difficult to create anything.

    Close!

Junior Hoilett - already on a yellow card - mistimes a challenge on the edge of his own penalty area and concedes a free-kick. Fortunately for the Canadian, the referee keeps his cards in his pocket this time.

Anthony Knockaert fires his shot low and under the wall and it looks set to nestle into the bottom corner, but instead it's inches wide. Best effort of the match.

Reading are choosing to play without a properly recognised striker for this game with Yann Kermorgant dropped to the bench by manager Jaap Stam.

But, in the early exchanges it's clear that Garath McCleary is being deployed in a free role, popping up all across the front of the home side's line.

A strange choice, but when you've lost your past two games, maybe you're looking to surprise the opposition with something different.

    Brighton 0-0 Cardiff

Kenneth Zohore has Cardiff's first chance, gathering Greg Halford's pinpoint pass and firing a show low at David Stockdale's goal.

Cardiff face a tough task beating Stockdale tonight, as Brighton have the meanest defence in the division, conceding just 18 goals so far, and only Derby can match the Seagulls' 14 clean sheets this season.

  11. First goal of the nightpublished at 20:10 Greenwich Mean Time 24 January 2017

It's come in League One where Conor McLaughlin has fired Fleetwood Town in front against leaders Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

The Cod Army also went close early on when Wes Burns was denied by Simon Moore.

Oldham have had the better of the early stages against Peterborough but are yet to make a breakthrough.

And, with Bradford's trip to Oxford in the EFL Trophy having been called off minutes before kick-off, we're also awaiting goals in the two remaining quarter-finals at Swansea and Mansfield.

    Brighton 0-0 Cardiff

The first booking of the night in the Championship, as Cardiff winger Junior Hoilett is shown a yellow charge for a challenge on Beram Kayal.

Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock is fuming about that decision.

At the Madejski Stadium, some better news - Michael Madl has been cleared to carry on after that collision with Tyler Blackett a few minutes ago.

There's an early delay in play at Reading, where Fulham's Michael Madl has gone down holding his head after a clash of heads with Royals defender Tyler Blackett.

Hopefully Madl will be okay to continue.

And now they're off at the Madejski Stadium, with not a whiff of fog in sight just yet.

Brighton are continuing to control proceedings against Cardiff, with the visitors absorbing waves of pressure through the first 15 minutes. It's still goalless, though it seems only a matter of time at this point.

Tomer Hemed has the best chance of the first ten minutes, cutting inside from the right and firing a shot left-footed just beyond the post.

Cardiff keeper Allan McGregor was at full stretch to cover his goal - Hemed wasn't far away there.

Take Two in Berkshire this evening as both sides reassemble just off the M4 to try and complete a fixture they first set out to finish on 30 December.

The good news after that half-time abandonment that night is the skies are clear right now around the Madejski Stadium, but mist and freezing temperatures are forecast.

In a gesture of goodwill, Reading have allowed free admission to everyone who had a ticket for the original date of this fixture. Rules and regulations normally stipulate a half-price admission charge for rearranged games that have been abandoned.

    Brighton 0-0 Cardiff

No clear-cut chances so far at Brighton, but the hosts have made a brighter start against visitors Cardiff.

Solly March has looked a danger early on, working himself space and firing a cross into the box from the right, but he could not pick out a team-mate.

Cardiff have barely had hold of the ball in the first five minutes.
