    Ranieri's sacking by Leicester

    Jermaine Jenas
Former England midfielder on 5 live's Friday Night Social

Everybody was stunned – I still think it is a joke bearing in mind what he has achieved at a club like Leicester. But he deserved the opportunity to put the fight in to keep them up. But what doesn’t surprise you is that it is football.

That’s the state of the game at the minute, a lot of things are happening where you can’t put your finger on why it is happening. Ranieri is just another victim of that.

  9. 'Players have under-performed'published at 12:39 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2017

    Ranieri sacking

    Danny Mills
Ex-Leeds defender on BBC Radio 5 live

A lot of people have said that it is a disgrace, shambolic and that football has sold its soul. No one said it was a disgrace when Jose Mourinho was sacked after winning the title because he wasn't particularly liked in some quarters.

Leicester should be nowhere near where they are in the table. They are one point off relegation. Ultimately, the players should be carrying the can and almost every single one has under-performed.

The owners are not Leicester fans. If Leicester go down they will be in a horrendous situation financially. The owners have taken a business decision.

At least, I'm assuming that's what 'FACT' means...

  14. 'There was discontent but no mutiny'published at 12:20 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2017

    Matt Elliott
Former Leicester City captain on Football Focus

In my opinion, rumours of 'a mutiny' within the dressing room are overcooked and over exaggerated.

Reading between the lines, the owners asked the opinion of the players but I don't think they've gone behind the managers back and put the knife in - as it were. It's not as extreme as that.

Sure, there was discontent and concern as to the approach and the direction the club was going but surely it's their responsibility as players to follow thie leader - that being Ranieri.

I think the "mutiny" has been exaggerated - I don't think the players are totally the guilty party.

In my mind, they would have stayed up with him and they will stay up without him.

  15. 'Beyond football'published at 12:14 Greenwich Mean Time 25 February 2017

    Jermaine Jenas
Former England midfielder on Football Focus

What Claudio Ranieri achieved last year was beyond football.

It was a dream, what he and the team lived through and that's why there has been this huge uproar within sport and with the other managers.

    But football is ruthless sport.

Claudio should be the one to lead the team during that fight to stay in the league. He deserved the opportunity to do that.
