There's real pace in this Leicester side. Bartosz Kapustka has been a real livewire. I think the Foxes can do that tonight - sitting deep then hitting the opposition with their pace.

    Leicester 0-0 Derby

Leicester have their first glimpse of the Derby goal. Daniel Amartey loops a header on to the roof of the net. A few 'ooohs' by the home crowd - never looked like beating Rams keeper Jonathan Mitchell.

First attack is by the men in white. Ikechi Anya breaks down the left, seeing Max Lowe zooming up on his left shoulder. The youngster's low cross is cleared and Leicester break...

Steve McClaren is sat in his usual perch for the opening stages - high up in the stands.I'm having 23 minutes in the when-does-he-come-down-to-the-touchline sweepstake.

Nothing to worry him about his team's performance yet. Nor is there for Claudio Ranieri. Not much pattern.

Demarai Gray hasn't had a run in the Leicester team. He is direct, he has pace, he can put a cross in and he can finish. He needs regular games and he needs to perform.

Having been at the King Power Stadium at the weekend to see Leicester surrender to Manchester United for a fourth straight league defeat, I'm intrigued to see what reaction Claudio Ranieri's team produce.

The Leicester boss has promised changes. Of course there is a trip of huge importance to Swansea looming at the weekend, but they look a team that need any kind of win in any competition to lift the spirits.

Derby will be encouraged by their showing in the first tie at Pride Park and would love to inflict more misery on their East Midlands rivals.

The winners will also know that with League One Millwall waiting for them in round five, a quarter-final place would be firmly in their sights.

It's difficult to predict the result. Leicester are short on confidence. They have to go out and get the ball rolling and take it into the weekend. This is one heck of a chance for the players who have come in. If they produce a good result then they should have a chance to play against Swansea at the weekend.

Anyway... both sets of players have strolled out of the tunnel. Some sort of out-of-tune fanfare greets them. Claudio Ranieri stands on the sideline surveying the scene, he looks pretty relaxed.

On a different note... I wonder how long it takes Sav to blow-dry that quiff. It's steeper than an Alpine ski-slope. Must use a couple of bottles of strong-hold hairspray too.

  12. 'Nonsense'published at 19:42 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2017

    Leicester v Derby (19:45 GMT)

    Robbie Savage
Ex-Leicester City midfielder on BBC One

If Derby County were playing three Championship games in a week and chasing promotion would they put this team out? It's absolute nonsense. Play your best team.

  13. Win some, lose somepublished at 19:42 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2017

    Leicester v Derby (19:45 GMT)

Win, loss, win, loss. Win? Leicester will be hoping their run of alternate home results in the FA Cup continues...

  15. 'Clough made us run through nettles!'published at 19:40 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2017

    Leicester v Derby (19:45 GMT)

    Martin O'Neill
Republic of Ireland manager on BBC One

You'll always get dressing room unrest, it comes regularly. Funnily enough players never take responsibility for anything that happens... remarkable.

What is quirky when you're doing well becomes quizzical when you're not doing well.

I remember Brian Clough used to make us run through nettles at Nottingham Forest. It was quirky the week before the European Cup final. We were quizzical when we did it before a 3-0 defeat at QPR. We found it dumb then to be perfectly honest.

But when you're winning you'll do anything.

    Leicester v Derby (19:45 GMT)

    Alan Shearer
    Ex-England captain on BBC One

We wonder why we don't produce strong kids with strong mentality. Managers keep telling these players, 'you can't play three games a week'. So when the young players get to 18 they say 'well, I've been told I can't play three games a week'.

Why not play your strongest side? Derby have 5,000 away fans here. The winners are away to Millwall in the next round. This is an opportunity for Leicester and Derby to get some confidence. I just don't get it.

  19. 'Leicester need a result'published at 19:35 Greenwich Mean Time 8 February 2017

    Leicester v Derby (19:45 GMT)

    Alan Shearer
    Ex-England captain on BBC One

The wholesale changes tell you that survival and promotion are the concerns for these clubs. I think they should be able to do both - don't get me started on that. Leicester need a result to get their confidence back. Derby have 5,000 fans here tonight, what a result this would be for them.
