  1. Until tomorrow...published at 21:52 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2017

    FT: Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 Birmingham

Not a bad start to the weekend's football if you're a neutral, though I'm sure Birmingham fans may disagree with that assessment.

Sheffield Wednesday confirmed their promotion credentials, and now they'll look to push further up the table with Sam Winnall and Jordan Rhodes leading the way.

I'll be back tomorrow with more live EFL text coverage, so I hope you can join me once again. Until then, goodnight.

There is one more result to tell you about from the English Football League before I sign off tonight, as League Two leaders Doncaster have been held to a 0-0 draw at bottom-placed Newport County.

To be fair to the two sides, I'm not sure the conditions at Rodney Parade were exactly ideal for free-flowing football.

  3. Reactionpublished at 21:44 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2017

    FT: Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 Birmingham

Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Sam Hutchinson told Sky Sports:

"In the first 20 minutes we were very good, then we died.

"Their diamond worked very well, caused us lots of problems.

"We take every game as it comes and if we get the points on the table, fingers crossed we can finish as high as possible."

    FT: Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 Birmingham

Sheffiled Wednesday striker Jordan Rhodes told Sky Sports:

"To come off with three goals and three points is a good night.

"It is nice to get off the mark.

"We just need to keep taking one game at at time, work as hard as we can and hopefully have something to celebrate."

  5. FULL-TIME: Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 Birminghampublished at 21:37 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2017

Sheffield Wednesday couldn't have asked for much more than that, strengthening their hold on sixth place with a deserved victory.

Sam Winnall and Jordan Rhodes both scored their first goals for the club, as the Owls move five points clear of seventh-placed Norwich.

Birmingham had their chances, but their record is now one win in 12 games under Gianfranco Zola. Their play-off hopes, already fading fast, are surely gone.

  6. Postpublished at 90 mins

    Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 Birmingham

Into three minutes of added time now, with Birmingham pushing for a consolation goal.

City have created chances, hit the woodwork three times, but defensive lapses mean they'll come away with nothing to show for their efforts.

  7. goal

GOAL: Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 Birminghampublished at 87 mins

    Adam Reach

    Game over.

Birmingham concede possession in midfield, with the ball quickly played through to Sam Winnall, who plays Adam Reach in on goal despite being clattered by a Paul Robinson challenge.

Reach keeps his composure and slides the ball into the net. Wednesday are cruising now.

    Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 Birmingham

I cannot emphasise enough just how good that cross was, positively Beckham-esque.

Birmingham haven't been awful tonight, but they have been undone by a wonderful bit of quality from Jack Hunt, whose deliveries have been excellent all night long from right-back.

That goal was Winnall's fourth against Birmingham this season by the way, having scored three in two games for Barnsley.

    Sam Winnall

    Jack Hunt, that is magnificent.

Sam Winnall heads in from six yards out for his first Sheffield Wednesday goal, but this is all about a wonderful cross from Hunt, who swings the ball in with pace and pinpoint accuracy from the right.

You won't see a better delivery than that all season.

  10. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 78 mins

    Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 Birmingham

Stunning effort, but still no equaliser.

Gary Gardner unleashes a shot from long range and it clatters back off the bar.

But what's this? Sheffield Wednesday on the attack...

  11. Postpublished at 75 mins

    Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 Birmingham

More and more space opening up inside the Sheffield Wednesday half now, and Birmingham respond by bringing on former Sheffield United forward Che Adams, who gets exactly the reception you'd expect from the Wednesday crowd.

David Davis then goes close for City, with his shot deflected a yard over the bar for a corner.

It's fair to say this second half hasn't lived up to the standards of the first 45 minutes, with just 20 minutes left to play.

Cheick Keita burstS into the Sheffield Wednesday box from left-back and wins his side a corner, but once again the hosts hold firm in defence.

Then from nowhere, the visitors are almost level, as Vincent Sasso - apparently unaware of Lukas Jutkiewicz lurking behind him - ducks under a cross.

Jutkiewicz, perhaps not expecting the ball to arrive at his feet, can't get the crucial final touch.

  13. Postpublished at 67 mins

    Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 Birmingham

A bit more encouragement here for Birmingham, as Kerim Frei gets space on the left to cross the ball in, though his delivery can't beat the first defender.

I've barely mentioned strikers Lukas Jutkiewicz and Jerome Sinclair tonight, but they can't be blamed for their lack of service.

Sheffield Wedneday make their first change, with Fernando Forestieri looking rather miffed as he is withdrawn for Adam Reach.

  14. Birmingham substitutionpublished at 64 mins

    Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 Birmingham

Maikel Kieftenbeld, whose challenge on Morgan Fox looks worse the more you watch it, comes off to be replaced by winger Kerim Frei.

Birmingham are camped inside their own half at the moment - can Frei make the difference for them?

  15. Postpublished at 62 mins

    Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 Birmingham

Maikel Kieftenbeld is the first man to be shown a yellow card, but the Birmingham man might be fortunate it's not a red.

His challenge on Morgan Fox is dangerous, studs raised and landing right on the full-back's ankle. Fox, fortunately, is okay.

Birmingham might be losing their discipline, as David Davis follows Kieftenbeld into the book a minute later. He'll miss Birmingham's next two games for that.

  16. Postpublished at 59 mins

    Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 Birmingham

How long until Gianfranco Zola looks to make a change?

Birmingham were in the ascendancy in the latter stages of the first half, but they haven't maintained that level of play since taking back to the pitch for the second period.

Sheffield Wednesday haven't created much in the way of chances this half either, though Ross Wallace has just blazed over from distance.

  17. Postpublished at 54 mins

    Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 Birmingham

    Surely this time...no!

Sam Winnall has had plenty of chances to get his first Sheffield Wednesday goal and he misses another one here, heading over the bar from Ross Wallace's corner.

The second-half has started much like the first, with the hosts well on top in the first ten minutes.

  18. Postpublished at 51 mins

    Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 Birmingham

Jerome Sinclair wins Birmingham a free-kick right on the edge of the penalty box, and Craig Gardner steps up to take it.

He gets it just up and over the wall. but into the side netting. Not too far away.

  19. Postpublished at 49 mins

    Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 Birmingham

    Should it be 2-0?

Barry Bannan slips a pass into the path of Ross Wallace, and he in turn slides the ball to Sam Winnall inside the Birmingham box.

Winnall's shot is on target, but it lacks power and Tomasz Kuszczak makes a fairly simple save to his right.

  20. Postpublished at 46 mins

    Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 Birmingham

The teams are back out on the field and Sheffield Wednesday get the second 45 minutes started.

Birmingham will be 12 points outside the play-off places at the end of the night if they can't turn this scoreline around.
