Birmingham name an unchanged starting side after picking up their first win under Gianfranco Zola last time out.

Birmingham: Kuszczak, Nsue, Grounds, Robinson, Kieftenbeld, Gleeson, Gardner, Jutkiewicz, Davis, Keita, Sinclair.

Subs: Legzdins, Adams, Stewart, Frei, Dacres-Cogley, O'Keefe, Bielik.

Sheffield Wednesday recall Sam Winnall to play alongside Jordan Rhodes up front, after he was left out of the side which beat Wigan 1-0 last Friday.

Rhodes and former Charlton left-back Morgan Fox make their home debuts, while Sam Hutchinson also returns to the starting line-up.

Sheffield Wednesday: Westwood; Hunt, Loovens, Sasso, Fox; Wallace, Hutchinson, Bannan, Forestieri; Winnall, Rhodes.

Birmingham may be a little relieved to see that Sheffield Wednesday striker Gary Hooper has yet to recover from injury, as the 29-year-old has been a thorn in their side in recent meetings.

Hooper has scored three times in three games against Birmingham for the Owls, but he has not featured for the first-team since November as he battles a hamstring problem.

The Blues’ centre-backs won’t be able to relax though, as starting tonight are new arrivals Jordan Rhodes and Sam Winnall - a tough test for any Championship defence.

Though the statistics may have made grim reading for Birmingham, it should come as some consolation to know that a win tonight would lift them to within six points of the play-off places.

While Wednesday may have the more recognisable names in their squad, City have plenty of talent of their own after being bolstered by a number of new arrivals in the January transfer window, including exciting young left-back Cheick Keita.

Meanwhile Lukas Jutkiewicz – a bargain buy from Burnley at £1m – has impressed all season long up front, leading the side with 11 goals.

Oddly though, Blues might be better off if Jutkiewicz settles for providing for his teammates tonight, as they have not won in any of the five away games he has scored in this season.

If past history and recent results are anything to go by, Sheffield Wednesday are firm favourites.

The Owls are unbeaten in their past five home league games, with four wins and a draw, and they have won three and drawn two of their past five games at Hillsborough against the Blues.

Birmingham have struggled since Gianfranco Zola replaced Gary Rowett as manager in December, failing to win in his first 10 matches in charge, before finally battling to a 1-0 victory over 10-man Fulham last weekend.

Blues have won just three times away from home in the Championship this season, while Wednesday have lost three times in front of their own fans.

You could be forgiven for thinking you’ve seen this story played out before if you’re a Sheffield Wednesday fan, with your team sixth in the table and battling for a play-off spot.

Last season, the Owls finished sixth in the league and made it all the way to the play-off final at Wembley, where they failed to produce any of their best football and slumped to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Hull.

Already 12 points outside the top two, the play-offs seem to provide head coach Carlos Calvalhal his only realistic shot at taking Wednesday into the Premier League after a 17-year absence.

Victory tonight would give the hosts a bit of breathing room ahead of the weekend fixtures, with Norwich only two points behind them as things stand.

After three games on the road, sixth-placed Sheffield Wednesday make a welcome return to Hillsborough for the latest round of Championship action.

Their opponents tonight are Birmingham, who will be hoping to revive their own slim play-off hopes with a first win in seven away games.

Friday nights have been good to us so far this season, with not a single goalless draw to speak of. Let's hope for more of the same.
