    The Magpies have gone back to the top of the Championship and taken a big step towards automatic promotion to the Premier League.

    However, they have further tests to come at play-off challengers Huddersfield and Reading in the next week.

    Byron Moore scored an equaliser for Bristol Rovers late on, while Bolton finished the game with 10 men after Chris Long was shown a second yellow card for dissent.

    The result leaves the Trotters two points outside the automatic promotion places following second-placed Scunthorpe's defeat by Wimbledon.

    It's looking very, very good for Doncaster in League Two, who hold on to win 3-2 at Cambridge.

    The leaders gain ground on all their big rivals, as second-placed Plymouth lost 1-0 at home to Notts County, who are unbeaten in five games.

    Third-placed Carlisle suffer a 1-0 defeat at Cheltenham, while Portsmouth, fourth in the table, led 1-0 at home to Morecambe but couldn't hold onto their lead, as Lee Molyneux scored for the visitors late on.

    The biggest winners of the night are Hartlepool, whose 4-0 victory over Crewe moves them six points clear of the relegation zone.

    Scunthorpe miss out on the chance to close the gap to leaders Sheffield United as they lose 2-1 at home to Wimbledon, meaning the Iron stay level on points with third-placed Fleetwood.

    Meanwhile, Coventry's defeat at Bury leaves them 14 points adrift of safety at the foot of the table.

    Newcastle continue their fine away form, picking up their 12th win from 17 away games in the Championship.

    Tonight is the first time they have won after conceding the first goal - and the first time Brighton have lost after scoring the opener.

    The Seagulls had won on the previous 18 occasions they had gone 1-0 up.

    A real sickener for Albion fans, as they lose for just the second time at the Amex in 2016-17. They remain six points ahead of Huddersfield, who have a game in hand
