We've had one or two technical problems with the text commentary in the latter stages, I understand.

Just to bring you up to date: Barcelona full-back Aleix Vidal suffered what looked a really nasty ankle injury in the closing stages of that game after falling awkwardly in a challenge with Theo Hernandez of Alaves. Vidal was carried off on a stretcher, and is likely to be out for some time. A bit of a downer on which to finish, I'm afraid. Thanks for your company; we'll be back a little later as Real Madrid look to reclaim top spot by winning at Osasuna. Goodbye for now.

Alaves defender Theo Hernandez, who looks absolutely crestfallen after being involved in the challenge that caused Vidal's injury, walks over for a television interview. "I went for the ball," he says. " Now I'm going to go over and see him, to see how he is.

I didn't see the moment he went down. I just apologised to him, and now I'm going to see how he is."

Barcelona goalscorer Ivan Rakitic is giving an interview to Spanish television, and his concern is with Aleix Vidal after his injury. "The first time I saw it, I was really worried, really upset," he says. "Let's hope it isn't so bad and he gets back as soon as possible."

    Alaves 0-6 Barcelona

A really strange atmosphere at full-time. Barcelona have the win that takes them back to the top of La Liga, at least temporarily, but the celebrations have gone a bit flat, understandably, in the wake of Aleix Vidal's injury.

A booking for Alaves centre-back Victor Laguardia as he hacks down Lucas Digne. Finish it now, ref.

The fear for Aleix Vidal there is that he has broken his ankle in that challenge. The stadium has gone very quiet in the last few minutes. The best thing now would be for the referee to blow for full-time as quickly as possible.

    Alaves 0-6 Barcelona

Barcelona have already made all three of their permitted substitutions, so they will finish with 10 men.

Alaves, who immediately bring on Raul Garcia for Theo Hernandez, have a chance to pull a goal back, but Christian Santos drags a shot wide.

    Alaves 0-6 Barcelona

Oh, that looks nasty. Aleix Vidal slides into a challenge on Theo Hernandez and looks as if he has done some serious damage to his ankle. It seems as if the injury occurs as he bangs his ankle into the turf. The Barcelona right-back's boot is hanging off as he lies in agony on the turf, and the stretcher is called for. If that's as bad as it looks, Vidal will be out for a while. I really hope it isn't, but I'm not optimistic.

Luis Suarez, meanwhile, has seven minutes left to complete his hat-trick, and almost succeeds with a dink over the goalkeeper from just outside the penalty area. It dips just over the bar. If this was a cricket match, I think Barcelona would have declared by now.

    Alaves 0-6 Barcelona

Alaves have quite clearly had enough. Their right-back Carlos Vigaray has a kick out at Neymar after the Brazilian tries one stepover too many. Neymar does have a habit of showboating when Barcelona are running away with games - I saw him do it at Leganes earlier in the season, with sa similar response from the opposition. I'm all for a bit of skill, but it's not very clever self-preservation on his part.

    Alaves 0-6 Barcelona

A half-chance for Alaves' Christian Santos, who missed that great opportunity right at the start of the second half, if you can remember back that far. Santos strikes from a tight angle, but Marc-Andre ter Stegn blocks at the near post, and the resulting corner is cleared.

There's a problem here for Luis Suarez, who has taken a whack. There's absolutely no need for Barcelona to risk him, if there are any doubts, especially with Paris St-Germain looming on the horizon. Suarez, being Suarez, seems keen to play on if he can, though, and so he does.

    Alaves 0-6 Barcelona

I remember, the best part of 30 years ago, seeing Manchester City beat Huddersfield 10-1 in the old Second Division. Huddersfield were trailing 9-0 when they got a penalty in the last minute, and Andy May's conversion brought a huge cheer from the suffering away fans. Unfortunately for them, David White scored City's 10th pretty much straight from the kick-off. I think all football fans have had days like that. Today, it's the turn of the Alaves supporters.

What's the Spanish for "We want seven"? Asking for an Alaves fan.

To the great credit of the home fans, none of them appear to be heading for the exits.

Messi takes it, but the ball clears the bar. Alaves look almost grateful.

A change for the visitors; Andre Gomes is replaced by Sergio Roberto.

    Luis Suarez

Lionel Messi, with the Alaves defence on the canvas, begging for mercy, keeps his foot to the throat. He bends a shot towards the far corner, and all Fernando Pacheco can do is push the ball away and hope it doesn't fall to a world-class striker. Ah, here's Luis Suarez. Oh, well. The rebound is thumped back into the net, and Suarez edges back in front of Messi in the Pichichi race. It's 18 La Liga goals for the season for the Uruguay international. At some point, I might be able to do an update that isn't a goal...

    Ivan Rakitic

Good grief. The goals are flying in. Luis Suarez bursts into the penalty area along what used to be known as the inside-right channel, and cuts back for Ivan Rakitic to steer a first-time shot into the corner. Hang on, there's another one just gone in...

    Alexis (og)

Well, initially, I thought that was Lionel Messi's second goal in four minutes, but reviewing the video evidence, it is actually an own goal. The Barcelona number 10 surges through the centre, with the home defence in tatters; there is a sliding challeneg by an Alaves defender, and the ball ricochets in off Alexis.

  20. goal

    Lionel Messi

Barcelona cruising now. The move starts in off-kilter fashion - Sergio Busquets is actually booked for taking a free-kick too quickly. The re-take leads to a smart passing move; Neymar feeds Lionel Messi, who breaks a rather feeble challenge from Carlos Vigaray, runs in from the left and fires an angled shot under keeper Fernando Pacheco, who perhaps should have saved it.

La Liga goal number 17 for Messi, who is back level with Luis Suarez in the race to be the competition's top scorer.
