Derby have just one win in eight league games and Brighton had a few worries after back-to back defeats against Newcastle and Nottingham Forest. But a no-nonsense win over bottom-club Rotherham got them back on track.

And being blessed with goalscorers wherever you look does plenty for self-belief.

Four men have managed 49 of the 60 they have scored in Championship this season.

Glenn Murray has 17, Anthony Knockaert (pictured) has 12, and Sam Baldock and Tomer Hemed, who is on the bench, both have 10. Useful.

Still, on the plus side for the visitors, at least Derby are facing a team who struggle to win at home...

Chris Hughton makes one change from Tuesday's 2-0 win at Rotherham - top-scorer Glenn Murray starts in place of Tomer Hemed.

Things are not looking so rosy for the Rams.

Steve McClaren's side could do little wrong up until Christmas time. But since the season of goodwill, it's been pretty darn miserable and they are now in tenth, 10 points off the play-off spots with 10 games remaining.

Derby are dangerously close to entering must-win cliche territory here.

Back to tonight's action for the moment and yes, Championship promotion chasing is on the agenda. Brighton can give themselves a nine-point buffer to third-placed Huddersfield with victory - albeit the Terriers will have played two games fewer.

A nine-point gap with nine matches to go? You'd probably take that as a Brighton fan.

April also has a seemingly favourable fixture list for the Seagulls, with home games against Blackburn, Birmingham, Wigan and Bristol City.

It wouldn't surprise me to see a totally different performance and a victory tomorrow. I'd be amazed if they could go on the run they need to to get in the play-offs. It's happened too late, it should have happened a while ago.

Alan Irvine has massive experience. He'll be able to put the team together and I fully expect them to win that game [against Blackburn].

It does say something about where the board is at the moment, saying he's not going to get sacked and then pull the rug from under him.

Are the board arguing with each other, can they not make decisions? It's a really unfair way to treat him.

He deserved a little bit more respect than to be pushed out there and the rug pulled from under him.

I'm surprised at the way it's happened and the timing. Clearly something's gone on this afternoon.

It's a little bit harsh on the manager to have done the news conference and talked about the summer and then been sacked.

It's a bit like Chris Hughton [when he was sacked by Norwich in 2014]. it should have happened a lot, lot sooner.

I think the majority of fans will be happy, but it's way too late. They should have done this a long time ago and Norwich would have a chance of the play-offs.

What the club have done to Alex Neil is not on. It's absolutely right he shouldn't be the Norwich manager any more, but what's happened today wasn't on.

He's always honest, he's always courteous. They've made him go out there today and talk about what he's going to do in the summer. Four hours later they sack him.

Manager Alex Neil has been sacked after over two years in charge,  following a five-game winless run that has left the Canaries nine points outside the play-off places.

The 35-year-old took part in today's news conference prior to the match against Blackburn, but instead it will be first-team coach Alan Irvine in charge tomorrow.

There is plenty of reaction coming up...

But before we get into the nitty-gritty of tonight's Championship offering, it's time to get up to speed with some managerial upheaval in England's second tier within the last hour.

Evening all. Brighton can go top of the Championship tonight. They just need to win 12-0.

Now I know that things have been bad for Derby of late, winning just once in their past eight matches, but that's clearly not going to happen.

Without getting greedy, a plain old simple home win for Chris Hughton's Seagulls and they go level on points with leaders Newcastle and well on course for automatic promotion.
