Sunderland need the ball and fast but John O'Shea has given away a free-kick.

A final change for Watford as M'Baye Niang is replaced by Juan Zuñiga. 

That is by far Sunderland's best effort on goal this afternoon.

Fabio Borini's shot from the edge of the box looked to be finding the bottom-right corner but Heurelho Gomes throws himself down low to push the ball wide.

That gives the visiting fans some encouragement to get behind their team as they roar David Moyes' side forward.

Sunderland have created very little in this match but they really need something now. They're seven points from safety as things stand. Defoe looks to get a sight of goal but loses possession.

That yellow card header is getting quite a workout in the last few minutes.

Lamine Kone hauls down M'Baye Niang on the touchline.

He's the third Sunderland man in the book.

Sunderland's Wahbi Khazri has now earned himself a yellow card for furiously shouting in the face of the linesman.

The Tunisian thinks he should have won his side a corner but a goal-kick was given.

After seeing a replay, I'm not sure.

Watford look to break but Billy Jones drags back Isaac Success.

Jones gets his name taken by referee Lee Probert. As cynical as you get.

Watford have yet another corner after Jose Holebas' fierce shot is deflected narrowly over the Sunderland goal. 

Another corner follows - Watford's 13th of the match - and Fabio Borini just manages to clear ahead of Etienne Capoue. 

A second Sunderland change, Wahbi Khazri, a key member of Sunderland's escape from relegation last season, replaces Adnan Januzaj. 

Didier Ndong, who has looked good in the few minutes he has been on the field, feeds Adnan Januzaj but the Belgian forward's shot from the edge of the box is tame.

That is probably Sunderland's best chance and it was a weak, weak, weak effort.

How big a save could this be? 

Isaac Success is clear through on goal but his shot is saved by the legs of Jordan Pickford. Abdoulaye Doucoure's follow-up is blocked.   

If Sunderland are to have any chance of winning this game, and saving their season, they'll have Jordan Pickford to thank.

David Moyes makes a change straight away bringing on Didier Ndong for Darron Gibson. 

A second change for Watford.

Nordin Amrabat is replaced by Isaac Success. Amrabat doesn't look too pleased to be going off. This is only his second game since New Year's Day. He was probably enjoying himself.

Sunderland see off the danger from the corner and another which followed.

M'Baye Niang has a shot from distance but it goes harmlessly wide.

Defoe is back on the pitch Sunderland fans! He looks as though he'll battle on. 

Watford have won themselves a corner after Daryl Janmaat's cross was blocked by Jason Denayer.
