    Watford 0-0 Sunderland

This could be the moment Sunderland have feared all season.

Jermain Defoe is down clutching his knee after a tussle for the ball. He may have twisted it.

The Englishman has scored 58% of Sunderland's goals this season. David Moyes' heart must be in his mouth.

    Watford 0-0 Sunderland

Watford captain Troy Deeney is out warming-up at half-time. He is missing today through illness.

Could we see the Hornets' main man after the break?

Here come the teams for the second half.

    Watford 0-0 Sunderland

Watford probably just about shaded that half but you can tell these two are nervous in front of goal.

Sunderland have failed to score in six of the last seven games while Stefano Okaka - starting up front in place of top scorer Troy Deeney - wasted Watford's best chance.

  6. HALF-TIMEpublished at 45 mins

    Watford 0-0 Sunderland

The home side are the team looking for an opener before the break. Miguel Britos stabs a shot towards goal but there was no chance that was beating Jordan Pickford.

Replays show Darron Gibson took a little chance dragging back Nordin Amrabat in the area but the referee is not interested.

    That is half-time.

    Watford 0-0 Sunderland

Watford have definitely had the better chances in this half and just before the break they have another.

Niang again is the tormentor shooting from the left side of the penalty box but Jordan Pickford saves.

The England Under-21 international just about deals with the following corner.

We'll have two minutes of added time.

  8. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 43 mins

    Watford 0-0 Sunderland

Kaboul is replaced by full-back Daryl Janmaat who is loudly booed by the Sunderland fans, a result of his Newcastle past.

This doesn't look good for Younes Kaboul.

He goes down clutching his right hamstring with no opposition player near him.

Watford boss Walter Mazzarri - who has been unlucky with injuries this season - slaps his thighs in frustration.

Kaboul is up but needs to be helped from the field, he'll play no further part against his former club.

    Watford 0-0 Sunderland

It's a lovely day in Watford. There's plenty of yellow t-shirts and short sleeves on show in the home crowd.

There's plenty of red and white in the Sunderland end as well but that's no surprise. They're from up north.

    Watford 0-0 Sunderland

That's really good play from Watford.

They keep the ball for a good minute, passing and moving, before working it into the Sunderland penalty area. Lamine Kone shows his strength to win the ball back though.

Etienne Capoue takes a shot from the edge of the area moments later. He gets a good connection but the ball drifts wide of the right-hand post.

Watford will be looking for more of that from the Frenchman - who is their second top scorer - in Troy Deeney's absence.

    Watford 0-0 Sunderland

M'Baye Niang has been the best player on the pitch so far, looking to beat his man at every opportunity.

He leads a Watford counter-attack but is eventually snuffed out. At the other end Sunderland come forward before Fabio Borini gives the ball away looking for Defoe.

The Englishman has had just three touches so far the lowest on either side.

    Watford 0-0 Sunderland

David Moyes is giving a big thumbs up to one of his players on the side-line. The Black Cats are weathering this little spell of pressure from Watford well.

They're yet to create an opportunity for Jermain Defoe however and that has been the trouble for Sunderland in recent weeks. Defoe has not scored in four games and neither has anyone at the club.

Will Defoe's goal for England last week inspire him today?

    And another chance for Okaka!

Etienne Capoue's cross from the right finds the Italian in between the Sunderland centre-backs but he heads over from eight yards.

No wonder he is looking sheepish. As with the chance moments earlier, Okaka should have done better.

    Pass it!

Stefano Okaka skips beyond John O'Shea with ease and surges towards the goal. He then decides to try another trick, attempting to beat Bryan Ovideo, but two Watford players were in better positions at the back post.

The Italian was a little selfish there.

    Watford 0-0 Sunderland

Sunderland fans look away. Your relegation rivals Crystal Palace are 2-1 up at Stamford Bridge..

  17. Postpublished at 13 mins

    Watford 0-0 Sunderland

This game has started really well.

It is Jordan Pickford's turn to keep the scores goalless, twice getting down low to save, firstly from M'Baye Niang and secondly Abdoulaye Doucouré.

For two teams terribly out of form, they're both going for it.

    Watford 0-0 Sunderland

Jason Denayer has indeed moved into midfield with Lamine Kone's return to the starting line-up.

The Sunderland fans are in good voice in a sold-out away end, their 12th away-day sell-out of the season. A mighty fine effort for a team who have spent much of the season in the relegation zone.

Heurelho Gomes makes the game's first save, getting down well to push a cross from Adnan Januzaj wide. That one looked to be sneaking in.

    Watford 0-0 Sunderland

Now it's Sunderland's turn to press.

Jack Rodwell receives the ball from Jermain Defoe and drives down the left before his shot comes off a defender and onto the roof of the net.

The visitors swing a couple of crosses into the box from the following corner but can't capitalise.

    Watford 0-0 Sunderland

Watford attack first and look dangerous.

Nordin Amrabat's deflected cross loops horribly towards the back post but Billy Jones manages to stoop and put the ball behind for a corner.

Tom Cleverley's delivery is poor moments later and the set piece comes to nothing.
