In the last four years, Wigan Athletic have gone from the Premier League to the Championship to League One and back to the Championship again.

Today, their return to League One will be confirmed if they fail to beat Cardiff City at the DW Stadium and Nottingham Forest win at home to Reading.

At the other end of the table, fourth-placed Huddersfield Town entertain sixth-placed Fulham.

    Premier League ups and downs

There are just the four games Premier League games today, and two tomorrow.

No league issues can be settled over the weekend, but interestingly as things stand, sixth and seventh place will qualify for the Europa League because one of Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City or Tottenham will win the FA Cup. Manchester United have, of course, already won the EFL Cup, while all those sides will already have qualified for Europe via their league place.

    All clear? Good.

  5. Lincoln edge closer to the Football Leaguepublished at 13:07 British Summer Time 22 April 2017

We could be welcoming Lincoln City back into the EFL today.

They're currently drawing 1-1 against Macclesfield in the National League, but they will be promoted as champions if they win or Tranmere fail to win later on.

It would top off an incredible season for the Imps, who enjoyed a brilliant run to the FA Cup quarter-finals earlier this year.

Both Sunderland and Middlesbrough could be relegated next weekend if results go against them in the next few days.

The Black Cats are not in action today but Middlesbrough's survival hopes will be dealt a major blow if they lose at Bournemouth.

Swansea City will end the day out of the relegation zone if they win at home to Stoke City and Hull City fail to win their home game with Watford.

All games start at 15:00 BST.

This Tottenham team is purring. Other sides look with envy at what Tottenham are about and what they might accomplish. In particular, with players like Dele Alli getting all the plaudits, Spurs have such a strong midfield.

But Tottenham do need to win a trophy, because that is the natural next step and it will allow the club to keep all their top players.

Man United were prepared unbelievably for the game last weekend. Mourinho lost at Chelsea and again to them in the FA Cup.

He didn’t want to lose that game. He prepared the team mentally to be physical, especially on Hazard. It can happen, you can lose against Man United.

I don't think this tie will have an affect on the title race. If Chelsea and Tottenham were going to play one another again in the league this season then maybe. This semi-final is a one-off game. The league will take care of itself. Those last four fixtures Chelsea have got are relatively easy and that's why I think Chelsea will win the league.

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill was treated in hospital this week for gastroenteritis and could be a doubt for this afternoon's FA Cup semi-final against Tottenham.

Reports on Friday, external said the England international spent two nights in hospital with the illness.

Cahill has played in all 32 league games this season but boss Antonio Conte said it will be "difficult" for him to be fit in time.

It means the outgoing John Terry could feature at some stage - just days after announcing his intentions to leave this summer.
