  • Burnley safe with a win

  • West Brom have not scored in five games

  1. CLOSE!published at 47 mins

    Burnley 0-0 West Brom

It's Burnley who have started the stronger after the break.

Stephen Ward gallops forward down the left and delivers a teasing ball that's headed behind for a corner.

Scott Arfield sends the set-piece to the edge of the six-yard box and James Tarkowski meets it on the run, only to head powerfully over the crossbar.

Here we go. Burnley get the second half under way.

    Burnley 0-0 West Brom

The stats show just one shot on target in the first half.

That must've been Sam Vokes' effort from George Boyd's cross, although Ben Foster did also save from a scuffed Ashley Barnes effort early on - it may well have been going wide.

Let's hope for a few more chances after the break.

Sean Dyche is screaming on the touchline. I can't tell what he's saying, but I hope it's for his side to try and get the ball down.

If Tony Pulis could ask that of his West Brom side too, that'd be fantastic.

There's little for the Match of the Day team to go off so far.

In fairness to James McClean, he's one of the only players who looks willing to get the ball down and run at his marker.

He's the Baggies' main outlet, as is George Boyd for Burnley.

    Burnley 0-0 West Brom

James McClean has just done himself.

Step over after step over in acres of space before completely forgetting where the ball is.

Burnley break as the winger leaves possession behind him and he nearly puts Sam Vokes in, but he just strays offside.

    Burnley 0-0 West Brom

Jonny Evans has come back on for the visitors, but looks to be hobbling around at the back.

Will he try to see it through until half-time? Allan Nyom was sent out to warm up for West Brom.

    Burnley 0-0 West Brom

Burnley almost capitalised on their numerical advantage there.

With Jonny Evans off the pitch, the hosts worked the ball to Scott Arfield in the area and it took James McClean tracking back to stop the Burnley midfielder having a shot on goal.

Fantastic work rate from the Baggies winger.

    Ouchy.

I've just been talking up one centre-back, but there's another in trouble.

Jonny Evans landed awkwardly as he went to make a clearance with no Burnley players anywhere near him, and he's gone down clutching his ankle.

    Tony Pulis looks concerned.

Kevin Long's had a solid start to life in the Premier League.

The Irish defender signed for the Clarets back in 2010, but has only made 22 appearances in between loan spells at the likes of Accrington and Rochdale.

West Brom have failed to really trouble him and centre-back partner James Tarkowski just yet.

All too comfortable for the hosts.

    Burnley 0-0 West Brom

Well, Burnley have upped the tempo in the last couple of minutes and look the more likely to open the scoring.

Matthew Lowton whips in a deep cross from the right and it runs all the way to the back post where George Boyd is lurking, but the long-haired Clarets winger can only slice over with his left foot.

    Burnley 0-0 West Brom

That's the best chance of the game.

Sam Vokes get across his marker at the front post to latch on to a deflected George Boyd cross from the left and fire an effort towards goal, but Ben Foster does brilliantly to get down and keep it out.

    Much more promising from Burnley.

    Safe hands from Tom Heaton.

The Burnley stopper comfortably claims a cross from Craig Dawson, who was looking for the head of Salomon Rondon.

It was a cracking crossfield pass from Baggies debutant Marc Wilson to find his opposite full-back in the first place, the sort of ball that if David Beckham or Steven Gerrard had played it in their day we'd be falling over ourselves to praise them.

    How's that for a 50-50.

Stephen Ward is loitering under a high ball on the left and Craig Dawson absolutely clatters him in the air, but wins the ball.

The West Brom defender had the run on Ward and wasn't backing out of that one.

Referee Mike Jones waves play on.

First sight of goal for Salomon Rondon, and it came from a West Brom clearance really.

The powerful forward suddenly found himself in space to the right of the Burnley box, but his half-volley was well blocked.

You'd think, with such an aerial presence, the Baggies would hoist the corner into the box - instead they go short to Jake Livermore and he overhits a cross.

    Burnley 0-0 West Brom

    This is scrappy. Perhaps unsurprisingly.

West Brom haven't scored in five games and Burnley are hardly prolific.

The hosts look solid at the back so far though, even without Michael Keane for the first time in the league this season.

The biggest cheer so far has been for the ball landing on the roof at Turf Moor, with the crowd waiting for it to drop like kids in a school playground.

    Burnley 0-0 West Brom

There's been little in the way of chances so far, but it's Ben Foster who is forced into the first save of the match, of sorts.

The ball drops to Ashley Barnes in the West Brom box and he scrambles an effort on target, but that's not troubling the Baggies stopper.

I hope the players can make out the difference in these kits better than I can.

Burnley are in their traditional claret and light blue while West Brom are in a very dark shade of blue that is hard to distinguish from the home shirts in the sun at Turf Moor.

But the hosts are keeping the ball well in the early stages, so I'm guessing they're not finding it an issue....
