There is real tension in this ground. Hull are used to sitting back against the good teams, even at home, and looking to spring on the attack. It's unusual for them to be expected to dominate a game, like they are today.

And it's surprising how quickly the home crowd have gone quiet, because Sunderland are passing the ball around really well and much better than the hosts.

    Hull 0-0 Sunderland

Sunderland are looking a bit more relaxed, both on the pitch and in the technical area. David Moyes warmly encourages his team after Didier Ndong's long-ranger is deflected out for a corner.

This is a heart-warming sight. Ryan Mason is back at the KCOM Stadium for the first time since fracturing his skull in January.

Mason said he felt "lucky to be alive" after having surgery following a clash of heads with Chelsea defender Gary Cahill on 22 January.

After eight minutes of treatment on the pitch, he wore an oxygen mask as he was carried off on a stretcher.

Hull said there is no timescale on the England international's return to playing.

  4. 'I so admire Marco Silva'published at 15 mins

Hull are in a great position. I so admire Marco Silva and the job he's done - 19 points collected at home from a possible 21 is an incredible turnaround.

Key for Hull was the club backing the manager during the January transfer market, because Mike Phelan and Steve Bruce simply were not backed by the owners.

    Hull 0-0 Sunderland

Hull are huffing and puffing, but the Sunderland house will not be blown down. Jordan Pickford is called into action twice in quick succession, punching clear a couple of hopeful balls into the box.

    Hull 0-0 Sunderland

Quick question Sunderland fans. Is it nailed on that Jordan Pickford will leave the Stadium of Light in the summer?

And where would he go? The BBC Sport office reckons Everton could be a good fit. Or Leicester if they flog Kasper Schmeichel?

    Hull 0-0 Sunderland

Sam Clucas scored a beauty t'other week. Not surprising then that the Hull midfielder fancies his chances from distance. He has a pop from about 25 yards, but his low effort lacks the power and precision to trouble Jordan Pickford.

    Hull 0-0 Sunderland

Ouch. Sunderland midfielder Jason Denayer absolutely clatters Lazar Markovic to crudely stop a Hull counter. How he escapes a yellow card I'm not so sure.

  10. 'Honeyman really, really should score'published at 6 mins

    Hull 0-0 Sunderland

George Honeyman really, really should score. Jermaine Defoe dragged the defender away but Honeyman headed the ball down and wide. It might be early nerves from the midfielder but he could well rue that miss come full-time.

Honeyman is 22, out of contract at the end of the season and last season was on loan at Gateshead. From the Gateshead International Stadium to the top flight...

  11. 'Hull are confident as a side'published at 5 mins

It's an exciting atmosphere here, with the Hull fans I've spoken to expecting wins of 2-0 or even 3-0. They're nervous of course, but it might be the first time this season that Tigers fans have gone into a game expecting the win.

You can be confident as a side, working together for a victory, but if you're obviously over-confident it gives the opposition motivation.

Oooh! Sunderland could, and perhaps should, be ahead. Billy Jones swings in a delicious cross from the right flank, the Hull defence stands motionless, allowing George Honeyman to sneak in. The young midfielder heads downwards into the turf and the ball bounces inches wide of the right-hand post.

I can't see Sunderland getting anything here this afternoon, the way they have performed of late. Plus, Hull's home form has been impressive, and of course the Tigers desperately need a result.

Hull go on the attack, Kamil Grosicki whipping in a low cross from the left flank. John O'Shea is well positioned to hack clear.

    Hull 0-0 Sunderland

It is an old cliche, but will we see Sunderland playing with more freedom now relegation has been confirmed?

They have an early half-chance, Fabio Borini smashing a bouncing ball well wide on the half-volley. Cue whistles from the home crowd.

Warm hugs between all the Hull players as their names are greeted by huge cheers when they are announced by the pumped-up MC.

George Honeyman, one of the fresh faces brought in by David Moyes, tries to gee up his team-mates.

Whatever happens to Hull, Marco Silva will be a man in demand. We understand he has a relegation clause in his contract so he can leave if they can go down.
