Colin Reardon: Suarez really isn't Barca class - in the six-yard box - deadly. Elsewhere, non-event!

Alexander Turner: Magic! That's Carvajal added to the growing list of defenders who Messi has made to look like gormless statues.

Naveed Afzal: Bale is very limited as a footballer. Zidane is a big fan of Hazard and he would be a much better fit in this side.

Luis Suarez crosses from the right, it goes past Paco Alcacer and Jordi Alba lashes it wide at the far post.

I wish we weren't almost at half-time. Can we do a straight 90 with no break?

Lionel Messi, whose mouth is full of paper like he's come out of the dentists, has a shot from outside the box which is deflected wide by Casemiro. Referee says goal-kick. Messi can't believe it, but nobody can probably understand what he's saying.

  6. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 39 mins

Gareth Bale's return from injury has not gone to plan and he has to come off. It's not Isco - as everybody expected - who comes on, but 21-year-old Marco Asensio.

The biggest moment of his career?

Lionel Messi, still with a bandage on his mouth, is the all-time top scorer in El Clasico with 22 goals - although he had not scored in the last six matches with Real Madrid.

That's his 30th La Liga goal this season. In 29 games.

Lionel Messi scores his 499th Barcelona goal and it's a brilliant, crucial one. Ivan Rakitic plays the ball across the box and Luis Suarez lets it go.  Lionel Messi takes a couple of touches - absolutely taking two Real defenders out of the equation - and sweeps home.

Sam Scarborough: Laws of the game state that "any player bleeding from a wound must leave the field of play", so no, you're not allowed to.

Thanks for the rule check re Messi's wound, Sam...

A reminder of what the table looks like if Real Madrid win. They would be six points top with a game in hand, and the head-to-head advantage on Barcelona - which counts before goal difference.
