Angel Gomes looks like a seasoned professional, knocking the ball around with some crisp passes.

The crowd sceam "shoooot" every time he gets the ball, even when 40 yards out.

    Into the last minute.

I wouldn't say that was a particularly emotional exit by Wayne Rooney.

He waved to both ends of the ground as his number 10 went up to signal the substitution but there was nothing else.

Rooney hugged Angel Gomes, who has become United's youngest ever Premier League player, then headed to the dug-out.

There have been some songs from the home supporters for their captain but if that is his final Old Trafford appearance, it is all a bit low key.

    A significant substitution.

Angel Gomes becomes the youngest ever Manchester United player, aged 16 years and 263 days old.

He is also the first player born in the 21st century to play in the Premier League.

The teenager replaces the captain and the club's record goalscorer Wayne Rooney, who receives a warm round of applause. Last time in a red shirt at Old Trafford?

Meanwhile on the pitch, blood is gushing out of Joel Ward's nose.

The Palace defender is given a towel.

That's no good, he needs a surgeon.

Paul Pogba on the bench, dabbing away.

The most excitement we have seen in this second half.

  7. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 80 mins

    Man Utd 2-0 Crystal Palace

One too many kicks on Wilfried Zaha. The Crystal Palace winger hobbles off and is replaced by another ex-Manchester United player in Fraizer Campbell.

Zaha heads straight down the tunnel, feeling like he has been in the ring for 12 rounds with Anthony Joshua.

    10 minutes remaining.

This is a Premier League game.

I keep having to remind myself because there is not much competitiveness out there.

The game is being played at walking pace and Jose Mourinho and Sam Allardyce just shared a joke so free spirited has the occasion become.

  9. GREAT SAVE!published at 77 mins

    Man Utd 2-0 Crystal Palace

Luka Milivojevic curls the free-kick over the wall..

It is heading for the corner...

...but United goalkeeper Joel Pereira flies across to cleanly grasp the ball.

    Excellent stop.

Palace on top at the moment and they gain a free-kick 30 yards out after Axel Tuanzebe hacks at Jason Puncheon from behind.

Wilfried Zaha has been smacked from pillar to post by United today.

This time it is Michael Carrick who has a nibble and goes into the referee's book.

  12. CLOSE!published at 73 mins

    Man Utd 2-0 Crystal Palace

Ooh, nearly a Wayne Rooney goal... at the wrong end.

The Manchester United captain sticks out a foot at Bakary Sako's free-kick and it flashes inches over Joel Pereira's crossbar.

    Ah, finally some action.

Superb play from left-back Demetri Mitchell, escaping the attention of two Palace players, but his cross into the box is straight into the hands of goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey.

  14. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 66 mins

    Man Utd 2-0 Crystal Palace

Another Premier League debut, this time for Crystal Palace.

The wonderfully-named Sulley Kaikai replaces Patrick van Aanholt.

They are behind but it is the Crystal Palace fans who are making all the noise at Old Trafford.

    Fair play.

I remember them on this day last year at Wembley, they were making a heck of a racket.

There was a definite signal from the pitch to the touchline that Eric Bailly needed to come off then.

It was only when Jose Mourinho got to speak to his centre-half on the touchline that the decision was reversed.

Spare a thought for 20-year-old Matty Willock. He was about to make his Manchester United debut.

Eric Bailly came back on for Manchester United, by the way.

The centre-back looks OK to continue for the moment.

    Wayne Rooney's big moment...

The Manchester United captain skips past a Palace defender, but his low shot is blocked by Martin Kelly.
