Celtic winger Patrick Roberts takes down the ball on the edge of the box on the right and tries to bend it into the far corner but Tomas Cerny gets across to beat the shot out.

Cristian Gamboa, given a rare Celtic start, ventures forward and gets on the end of a James Forrest cross but cannot keep his header down.

First chance falls for the visitors.

James Forrest cuts in from the left, darts across the 18-yard line and strikes powerfully to draw a good save from Tomas Cerny.

"The Celtic fans are already in fine voice here in the Glasgow sunshine. They sense their side is edging ever closer to something very special.

"They're already on 100 points for the season. If they hit the net tonight it'll take their goal tally to 100.

"After securing top six, Patrick's work is pretty much done. Alan Archibald admitted to me before the game that it's a free hit for his side."

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers: "We're on our 57th competitive game of the season so far. We've got to manage the team through tonight and Sunday.

"We still have a strong team out. Like we've shown all season, we can make changes and get results so hopefully we can continue that tonight.

"Partick have shown this season that they're a very difficult team to play against and in particular here at home the results have shown that."

Partick Thistle manager Alan Archibald: "We've gone with creativity at the top end of the pitch. Quite attacking.

"They know they have to do a job without the ball as well but, hopefully, we can get at Celtic when we get the chance.

"We're playing for professional pride as well. We want to go out and put a show on for our fans as well. It's our second last home game of the season and we'd like to reward them with a victory."

There were two encounters between Partick Thistle and Celtic in December and both were won by the latter (4-1 and 1-0).

However, Thistle took a point from their trip to Celtic Park last month (1-1).

Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney, 19, was last night announced as the Scottish Football Writers' young player of the year.

He adds that prize to the PFA Scotland young player of the year award he won earlier this month.

The Scotland international won both awards last year as well.
