    Chile 0-0 Germany

Chile are in the mood tonight. Again it is Arturo Vidal with a chance, but he is off target from range. All Chile so far. Still goalless though.

The Mexican Wave is already going around the ground. That's normally a sign of not too much happening on the pitch, but it has been a lively start from the Chileans.

  2. GREAT SAVE!published at 6 mins

    Chile 0-0 Germany

Germany have not got started and nearly go a goal down. They give the ball away, Lars Stindl, the guilty man, and Charles Aranguiz is denied by a desperate saving challenge from Antonio Ruediger before Arturo Vidal's follow-up shot was well blocked by Marc-Andre Ter Stergen.

  3. Postpublished at 4 mins

    Chile 0-0 Germany

It is a bright start from the South Americans. Arturo Vidal looks to play a smart one-two with Eduardo Vargas but Vidal has gone a bit too early and is denied by the assistant's flag.

He would have been through on goal if the Bayern man had timed his run better. Early warning signs for the Germans though.

  4. CLOSE!published at 2 mins

    Chile 0-0 Germany

An early sighter from Alexis Sanchez. The Arsenal man picks up the ball 25 yards from goal, but cuts across the shot and it drifts harmlessly wide.

And the players are out on the pitch and now it is the time for the national anthems.

The Chile effort is a great one, with the fans and the players carrying on even after the music has stopped.

There is no-one more passionate in their line-up than Arturo Vidal. Eyes closed, hand on heart, screaming out the words.

The man with the crazy hair and huge talent, he could be the match-winner. In the semi-final against Portugal he was absolutely immense.

    Chile v Germany (19:00 BST)

So it is the same again for Chile, with their hopes relying on their lethal front three of Alexis Sanchez, Eduardo Vargas and Arturo Vidal.

Chile (4-3-3) Claudio Bravo (capt); Mauricio Isla, Gonzalo Jara, Gary Medel, Jean Beausejour; Marcelo Diaz, Charles Aranguiz, Pablo Hernandez; Arturo Vidal, Eduardo Vargas, Alexis Sanchez.

For Germany, their one change sees Arsenal's Shkodran Mustafi come into the left side of a back three, with Antonio Ruediger coming into the middle and Matthias Ginter nudging over to the right side. We expect Joshua Kimmich, who had played in defence last time out, to move out to a right wing-back role.

Germany (3-4-2-1) Marc-Andre ter Stegen; Shkodran Mustafi, Antonio Ruediger, Matthias Ginter; Joshua Kimmich, Sebastian Rudy, Leon Goretzka, Jonas Hector; Julian Draxler (capt), Lars Stindl; Timo Werner.

  8. Flying the flagpublished at 18:53 British Summer Time 2 July 2017

    Chile v Germany (19:00 BST)

It is going to be a great atmosphere in the St Petersburg Stadium today.

A wealthy Chilean businessman has despatched 5,000 national flags to Russia in an attempt to help his country win the Confederations Cup.

Mining tycoon Leonardo Farkas urged the 10,000 Chilean fans in Russia to gather outside the team's hotel to collect the flags.

"Let's give our players a boost," he wrote on Facebook. "Please, only one flag per person," Farkas warned.

The 50-year-old did something similar in 2015 when he handed 40,000 flags to fans watching the Copa America final in Santiago before Chile beat Argentina in a penalty shoot-out to become South American champions for the first time.

  9. No hiding place for lazy playerspublished at 18:51 British Summer Time 2 July 2017

Not putting in enough effort? Giving the ball away too much?

There is no hiding for the modern-day players with a host of backroom staff monitoring every aspect of their on-field performance.

Well, now these players will come under even more scrutiny as tablets that monitor player performance will be used by teams for the first time in a Fifa competition tonight.

The teams' analysts and medical staff will also be able to see match footage on the devices with a 30-second delay. Each team will be offered three tablets - one each for two team analysts and another for the team's medical staff.

The available player statistics include passing, pressing, speed and tackles. Germany and Chile will be encouraged to provide feedback on the test.

  11. 'We have become a team'published at 18:45 British Summer Time 2 July 2017

    Chile v Germany (19:00 BST)

Germany have the youngest team in Russia with the average age of their squad just 24, with World Cup winners Manuel Neuer, Jerome Boateng, Mesut Ozil, Toni Kroos and Thomas Muller among those left at home.

However, the young German side have produced some impressive performances as the tournament has gone, notably beating Mexico 4-1 to reach the final.

"A lot of work has gone into our wins," said Germany boss Joachim Low. "We couldn't pre-empt reaching the final as some players had little experience and you couldn't calculate how they'd react.

"We've become a team over the last few weeks. They know there is work ahead and they are ambitious enough to beat Chile."

  13. 'We will prove we're the best in the world'published at 18:39 British Summer Time 2 July 2017

    Chile v Germany (19:00 BST)

It's fair to say Chile midfielder Arturo Vidal has got a bit carried away in the build-up to the final.

"If we win, we will prove we're the best team in the world," said Vidal, ignoring the fact Chile are fourth in the world rankings behind Brazil, Argentina and Germany and also only fourth in their South American World Cup qualifying section.

"We have proven our value, we have beaten Argentina and Portugal, the European champions," added the Bayern Munich man.

"We have reached this final with our spirit and attitude - this is a waiting room for the World Cup - and if we win that will show where we are. We still have to qualify for the World Cup, but we have a lot of energy and want to prove ourselves."

  14. Portugal take third placepublished at 18:34 British Summer Time 2 July 2017

    Portugal 2-1 Mexico (after extra-time)

We've already had some Confederations Cup action earlier today with Portugal beating Mexico 2-1 after extra-time to secure third place.

Portugal wasted a chance to take a first-half lead as Andre Silva's penalty was saved by Mexico goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, before Mexico went ahead through an own goal by Luis Neto.

However, in the first minute of injury-time, Pepe snatched a dramatic equaliser to force the game into extra-time.

Portugal, without Cristiano Ronaldo for family reasons, scored the winner when Adrien Silva finally managed to score a penalty - the first one the country had converted in five attempts.

Stuart Jenner: We are ready here in Chile. As it is Election Day all pubs are closed until 7PM, if they open at all. And it´s a 2PM kick off.

Our knowledge of the Chilean electoral system is rudimentary, at best. But as we understand it, today the political parties hold primaries to elect their candidates. We await your inevitable corrections.

We have taken a look back at the competition and discussed what can be learned before the World Cup gets going in Russia next summer.

We have seen some great football, and also huge controversies with the video assistant referee (VAR) system not being to everyone's liking, while the standard of the pitches - and the Russian team - has not been the best.

    Chile v Germany (19:00 BST)

This tournament is the warm-up to the World Cup in Russia, and we've already had a warm-up to the warm-up final.

Confused? Well, these teams have already met once in this tournament with it ending 1-1 in the group stage.

An early Alexis Sanchez penalty put Chile ahead, but the Germans pegged them back with an equaliser from Lars Stindl just before half-time.

Germany have not kept a clean sheet in this tournament, although they have scored 11 times compared to only four from Chile.
